T&TEC: NO Electricity On Monday In Parts of St. Helena And Cedros

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of St. Helena and Cedros on Monday (10th August, 2026). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works.

According to T&TEC, the affected areas in St. Helena and Cedros are as follows: 

ST. HELENA (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM)

  • All customers on Madras Road from LP #4 to LP #6 Sarwansingh Trace.

ST. HELENA (8:30 AM to 4:00 PM)

  • All customers served from ABS 177 along Chin Chin Road, including Savary Road, Toussaint, Mansran Trace, Arnaud Trace, Shaffiran Avenue, Sesame Street, Lalloo Trace, and Griffith Trace, and continuing along Madras Road, including the Richmond Park Development, Pundit Street, Boy Cato Road, Wall Street, Ashoka Drive, Eliza Avenue, Calender Drive, Boyie Trace, Harracksingh Trace, Cliff Avenue, Ghandi Trace and Matroo Trace, as well as all associated side streets.

CEDROS (8:00 AM to 3:00 PM)

  • From LP #7 to LP #7/10 Grieg Street, Cedros, including all associated side streets.

T&TEC says it regrets the inconvenience which may be caused by these interruptions.

A woman was hospitalized after she was allegedly set on fire by her son during a domestic dispute at their home in Penal on Monday (3rd August, 2026). The victim has been identified as 66-year-old Tara Bridgelal of Rochard Road, Penal. According to reports, the family had cooked food and were liming and drinking downstairs, when an argument started between the victim and her son, 40-year-old Regan Bridgelal. 50-Year-Old Man Arrested Following $1,000 Robbery With Violence In Caroni

A man was arrested and a vehicle recovered following a report of robbery with violence in Caroni on Monday afternoon (10th August, 2026). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 2:05 PM, the victim, a 53-year-old proprietor, was in her husband’s vehicle at the side of the roadway in front of her home, located along Caroni South Bank Road, Caroni, when two (2) men alighted from a red Hyundai vehicle. One of the men reportedly shouted, “Gimme the money!” and grabbed the victim by her arm. The victim, who became fearful, handed over a small white envelope containing TT $1,000 in cash. The suspects then re-entered the red Hyundai and escaped East along Caroni South Bank Road. Officers of the Caroni Criminal Investigations Department (CID) visited the scene and conducted enquiries. Former Payroll Officer Facing 61 Fraud Charges For Allegedly Diverting Over $166,000 To Her Bank Account

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a former employee at a security consulting company has been charged with more than sixty (60) offences arising from an alleged case of fraud. In a Media Release today (Friday 14th August, 2026), the TTPS said the suspect, identified as Brenda Omadath, was employed as a Payroll Officer at the company. During a financial audit, it was revealed that during the period Thursday 9th January, 2025 to Tuesday 10th March, 2026, Omadath, while employed at the company, allegedly falsified payment sheets to deceive her employers and subsequently transferred sums totalling $166,461.05 to her account at a local financial institution. Man Dies In Head-On Collision Along Rivulet Road, Couva; Another Driver Hospitalized

A man is dead and another injured following a head-on collision along Rivulet Road in Couva on Friday night (31st July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Avinash, also known as “Chucky Avi,” of Dow Village. According to reports, a white Toyota Hilux (TDW 4431) was travelling East along Rivulet Road, when a grey Nissan Frontier (TCK 8116), heading West, allegedly crossed over into the opposite lane, resulting in a violent head-on collision with the Hilux, around 9:30 PM. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Both drivers sustained injuries and were conveyed to the Couva Health Facility for emergency medical treatment. However, Avinash subsequently succumbed to his injuries. National Hurricane Center Following Potential Development of TWO (2) Systems In Tropical Atlantic

UPDATE (10/08/26): In its first official statement , the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) said it has been monitoring an active Tropical Wave in the Central Tropical Atlantic, which is expected to affect the Southern Windward Islands from Thursday (13th August, 2026) of this week. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said it is now following the potential development of two (2) systems in the Tropical Atlantic during the upcoming week. In a brief statement issued on Saturday afternoon (8th August, 2026), the NHC said, “The development window is tight due to strong upper-level winds nearby, and the chance for tropical cyclone formation is currently low for both systems.” However, the formation chance for one (1) of the systems has since increased to medium. A Chaguanas man and his 18-year-old girlfriend have appeared before a Master of the High Court, charged with the murder of 25-year-old Shayanna Ruiz , which occurred on 29th July, 2026, in the Central Division. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), 25-year-old Darian Phillip of Edinburgh 500 and 18-year-old Daniella Connell of Crown Trace, Enterprise, were charged with the offence when they appeared before Master Tracey Vidale, in the North Criminal Court B, on Thursday 6th August, 2026. UPDATE (17/08/26): The second deceased man has been identified as Clint Jordan. Relatives of both Nigel Mohammed and Clint Jordan have disputed several aspects of what transpired at the property. They allege that Police Officers removed several Wi-Fi security cameras at the house and that neither man shot at the Police. One relative said a family member received a notification from one of the cameras and saw what appeared to be Police Officers dismantling it. UPDATE (06/08/26):  19-year-old Danielle Connell and her 25-year-old boyfriend, Darion Phillip, have been charged with the murder of Shayanna Ruiz .
