21-Year-Old Suspect Held With Stolen Vehicle, Hours After Robbing Taxi Driver

A 21-year-old man was arrested mere hours after a report of robbery with violence in the Maraval district on Monday (24th March, 2025).

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a male victim reported to Police that he was providing a taxi service around 2:30 PM on Monday afternoon, when he picked up a customer in the Laventille district, who asked to be taken to Maraval.

Along the way, the victim claims he was then directed to pick up a second customer in the Paramin district. Upon picking up the second person, who had a blue-coloured duffel bag in his possession, the driver informed them that he was not going any further.

The TTPS said that the second man then allegedly pulled out an AR-15 rifle from the bag and ordered the victim out of the vehicle. The victim was struck on the side of the head and was being bound with tie straps, when he attempted to grab the firearm from the assailant.

He was unsuccessful but managed to run off. He alleges he then heard two (2) loud explosions as he fled the scene.

The victim was subsequently taken to the Maraval Police Station, where a report of the incident was made.

A team of Officers from the West End Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Western Division Crime Scene Unit visited the scene and conducted enquiries into the matter.

The TTPS notes that around 5:00 PM on Monday afternoon, Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), Fort Chacon Base, intercepted the victim’s vehicle along Charlotte Street in Port-of-Spain, with a male occupant.

The suspect, of Maraval, was arrested and several items belonging to the victim, recovered in the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
