Following an incident during the first Eliminator match against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in Guyana on Wednesday (17th September, 2025), Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) Captain Nicholas Pooran has been fined 20% of his match fee, after being charged with a Level 1 offence under the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Code of Conduct.

During the match against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons on Wednesday, which TKR won by nine (9) wickets, Pooran was seen speaking aggressively to on-field Umpire Ryan Banwarie. The tension was so high that TKR Coach Dwayne Bravo ventured onto the pitch in an effort to calm Pooran down.

Pooran, who was named Player-of-the-Match after scoring an unbeaten ninety (90), was subsequently charged with showing dissent at an umpire's decision. He subsequently accepted the sanction and was fined 20% of his match fee.

The CPL stated that the matter is now closed following Pooran’s acceptance of the penalty.

The TKR star later apologized to Umpire Banwarie after accepting the Player-of-the-Match honours. “In big games, we tend as players to be in the moment as much as possible. Decisions don't go your way and you kinda feel a bit emotional," Pooran said. “Today [Wednesday] was tough to keep the emotions in. I want to say I apologize to the Umpire in the spirit of the game. I'm just really happy we could get over the line,” he added.

TKR will face the Saint Lucia Kings from 8:00 PM tonight (Friday 19th September, 2025), with the winner facing home team Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2025 CPL final on Sunday (21st September, 2025).

More on this as it becomes available.
