According to the Ministry, “In addition, the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago is in active contact with the Embassy of the United States of America in Port-of-Spain. Based on the information received, there is no need for the population to be concerned. All citizens are therefore urged to remain calm. The United States of America through its Southern Command (SouthCom) is in fact focused on assisting in the disaster recovery efforts for Jamaica.”
The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Government of Trinidad and Tobago gives the assurance that it will inform the population of any changes which would warrant a change in the security environment in the country.”
Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, spoke to reporters outside Parliament this afternoon, stating, “Be calm, there’s nothing to fear at this time…”
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said all is calm. She has no information about Defence Force members being called out to duty. The PM says as soon as the government is aware of any danger it will inform the public.
