Met Office Issues Hazardous Seas Alert For THIRTY-TWO (32) Hours

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) for a total of thirty-two (32) hours. The Alert begins at 8:00 AM on Wednesday (29th October, 2025) and will remain in effect until 4:00 PM on Thursday (30th October, 2025) for Northern near-shore areas of Trinidad and Tobago.

According to the Met Office, Northerly, long period swells are expected to affect the islands over the period with more noticeable effects at High Tide.

Impacts: 

  • Larger than normal breakers in the surf zone can disrupt daily marine activity, including fishing and recreation. 
  • Impacts will NOT BE CONTINUOUS over the identified coastal zones nor over the entire period.

Instructions:

  • All marine interests should carefully assess near-shore/coastal sea conditions and exercise caution along identified areas. 
  • Restrict near-shore marine activities and avoid swimming in the sea. 
  • Secure coastal property. 
  • Continue to monitor updates from official sites: TTMS at www.metoffice.gov.tt and access more information and instructions from www.odpm.gov.tt.
