P.M. Kamla Persad-Bissessar RESPONDS To Claims Made By Ralph Gonsalves

UPDATE (29/11/25): Days after a resounding defeat in the General Elections, former Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves delivered a firm and defiant address during a Press Conference, signaling that his political career is far from over.

Gonsalves confirmed that he will take up the role of Opposition Leader when Parliament reconvenes. He said his party remains strong, disciplined, and prepared to hold the new Government accountable from day one, while predicting that the incoming administration would crumble, due to the party’s lack of cohesion and readiness to govern.

Gonsalves further assured supporters that his leadership in the opposition would be “active, vigilant, and unwavering” as the country transitions to a new political era.

UPDATE (28/11/25): Dr. Ralph Gonsalves’ 24-year reign as Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is now over following a stunning and historic political upset in the country’s General Elections on Thursday (27th November, 2025).

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, issued the following statement last night: “Tonight, I congratulate the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on a successful General Election, where a resounding democratic mandate was given to the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Dr. Godwin Friday, the Prime Minister Elect. I commend the citizens of Saint Vincent for upholding the highest ideals of democracy. May God bless the newly-elected Government as they begin this new chapter of service to the people of Saint Vincent.”

UPDATE (27/11/25): General Elections are underway today (Thursday 27th November, 2025) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Is it the end of the road for Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves?

“Members of the media contacted me today [Thursday 20th November, 2025] for a response to Ralph Gonsalves’ claims that UNC operatives are involved in the St. Vincent and the Grenadines general election and are motivated by access to lands.” This from Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, in a post on X on Thursday, as the recent political back-and-forth between both countries continue.

Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said she “categorically refute and reject these allegations.” The following are some of the comments she shared with the media on Thursday:

“It is ironic that a man whose family obtained access to three (3) luxury apartments in Trinidad — including one on a favourable rent-to-own basis — would seek to call others greedy. Ralph should account to the people of St. Vincent for his twenty-four (24) years in power and stop deflecting onto the UNC. Further, he should identify the UNC persons he claims are in St. Vincent, or stop gaslighting his citizens. The investigations into Ralph’s family concerning the acquisition of three (3) high-rise luxury apartments at Victoria Keyes have absolutely nothing to do with their general elections.”

The Prime Minister said she had been informed that these investigations are intended to:
  1. Determine whether any fraudulent declarations were made.
  2. Verify the source of funds for the three (3) acquisitions.
  3. Identify how his daughter was able to obtain a favourable rent-to-own arrangement two (2) days after the general election, before the new Government was installed.
She added, “Recently, I have observed other CARICOM Prime Ministers and their parties actively and overtly campaigning and interfering in general elections outside their own countries within the Caribbean. The UNC does not participate in that type of deplorable and disreputable conduct. The choice of a leader for St. Vincent and the Grenadines is solely for the people of that country.”

Mrs. Persad-Bissessar’s statement on X concluded by saying, “If Caribbean Prime Ministers continue cavorting around the region and interfering in the affairs and elections of member states, it is only a matter of time before CARICOM implodes.”

More on this as it becomes available.
