44-Year-Old Charlieville Man Killed While Trying To Cross Highway Near Jerningham Junction
A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway on Friday morning (26th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Sumraj Bhagwandeen of Jerningham Junction Road, Charlieville.
According to reports, Police received a report that the body of a man was observed lying along the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, near Jerningham Junction, around 9:10 AM. Upon arrival at the scene, Officers of the Chaguanas Police Station and the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Freeport, found Bhagwandeen lying motionless on the roadway. He was clad in a purple plaid shirt, long blue jeans, and one (1) black shoe. A pool of blood was observed near his head.
Bhagwandeen’s brother, who was present at the scene, told Police that the deceased was last seen around 7:00 PM on Christmas night (Thursday 25th December, 2025), when he left his residence in a highly intoxicated state and walked across the Highway to an unknown location.
Investigations are continuing into the tragic accident by Ag. Cpl. Hollwah.
