10-Month-Old Baby Girl Found Unresponsive At Family’s Pool In Diego Martin — Dies At Hospital
A baby girl is suspected to have drowned in a pool at a private residence in a gated community in Diego Martin on New Year’s Eve (Wednesday 31st December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 10-month-old Alya Amalia Ramjit, who was born on 21st February, 2025.
According to reports, Alya was left in the care of her grandmother at the family’s two-storey home, while her parents briefly went upstairs. However, when the child’s father returned downstairs a short time later, he noticed his mother was alone and the baby was nowhere in sight. Upon asking about her whereabouts, the grandmother said she did not know.
After searching the house, Alya’s father went to a door on the Southern side of the home and looked toward a swimming pool located on the property. There, he saw what initially appeared to be a pink object floating in the water. He soon realized it was his daughter, lying face-down in the pool, which was approximately four (4) feet in depth.
The child was immediately removed from the water, and resuscitation efforts were attempted with the help of a friend.
She was rushed to Valley Medical Centre and later taken to the St. James Medical Facility by her parents, where further medical attention was provided. However, despite efforts by medical staff, the baby was pronounced dead at approximately 4:15 PM on Wednesday afternoon.
Doctors noted that the child had a pulse upon arrival but showed signs of severe distress, and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. A bruise was also observed on her right eyebrow.
Officers from the Western Division Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the West End Police Station visited and processed the scene.
The body was later transported to the Port-of-Spain Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations are continuing into the tragic incident.
More on this as it becomes available.
