SOE Ends: Prime Minister Threatens Another Round If Released Gang Members Misbehave

UPDATE: Former Prime Minister and former Minister of Energy, Stuart R. Young, SC, MP, issued the following statement in response to the Prime Minister: “Once again in what has become a disturbing trend, Kamla Persad Bissessar via X and FB issued an unhinged rant of incoherent threats where she lays the foundation for another SOE. It is clear that the UNC crime plan is SOEs under false premises. TT is NOT winning.”

“I want the gangs and those detainees released from prison to know that decent law-abiding citizens are fed up of your criminality and I will have no hesitation in enacting another SOE [State of Emergency] if you cannot behave yourselves.” This from Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, in response to the release of over 100 detainees from prison, including numerous gang members, as the SOE expires on 31st January, 2026.

In a sternly-worded statement issued via Facebook and X this evening (Saturday 31st January, 2026), titled “WARNING: ABSOLUTE HELL FOR CRIMINALS!,” the Prime Minister said, “You will be returned straight to prison and this time, your friends and family who aid your criminality will accompany you. If criminals want to terrorize law-abiding citizens and their families, I will do everything legally possible to terrorize criminals and their families. It’s time to tip the scales in this country toward law-abiding citizens. I will use every means within the law to make criminals and their friends and families' lives an absolute hell.”

Mrs. Persad-Bissessar continued, “Your UNC Government and the security services are prepared for the end of the SOE. I never cared about the tired, outdated woke, race baiting, and bigoted propaganda and I still don’t. If anyone wants to mash up the place and burn down the country, go ahead, that’s your democratic choice. However, anyone wanting to do this should understand by now that I am willing to do what it takes to keep decent, law-abiding citizens safe, so be certain that I will meet you head-on. Those who commit brutality against law-abiding citizens will be met with brutality from me, that’s a promise. It’s a reality that the combination of American assistance to secure our borders, the competent leadership of COP [Commissioner of Police] Allister Guevarro, and the incarceration of the persons detained under the SOE using PDO’s [Preventive Detention Orders], all contributed to 257 less murders in 2025 compared to 2024.”

She added, “The PNM and the local drug mafia financiers erroneously believe that the higher the number of citizens who are murdered, raped, robbed, and terrorized, the higher would their chances be of getting back into Government. They appear very angry that 257 citizens are alive today, who would have been murdered if the 2024 homicide trend had continued. The local drug mafia financiers' money laundering business fronts cannot survive without their PNM stooges manipulating economic, national security, and financial policies and institutions. The PNM Government of the last ten (10) years operated as a narco Government and enabled the murder, rape, and terrorizing of our citizens because PNM policies were crafted in paedophile lodges, restaurant backrooms, and yachts down the islands to benefit the local drug mafia financiers.”

Her statement concluded by saying, “Your UNC Government is committed to brutally destroying the local drug mafia and the violent gangs that they finance. The narco influence in Government affairs and policy ended with the removal of the PNM on April 28th, 2025.”

Mandatory Fixed Penalty Warning System For These 18 Traffic Violations To Take Effect From Monday

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is advising members of the public that, effective from Monday (2nd March, 2026), mandatory Fixed Penalty Warnings will be implemented for eighteen (18) specified traffic violations contained in the Eleventh Schedule to the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act , Chap. 48:50, aimed at improving road safety, encouraging compliance, and promoting corrective action. In a Media Release on Friday (27th February, 2026), the Ministry said, “ Motorists in breach of the listed violations will be issued a Fixed Penalty Warning instead of a Fixed Penalty Notice. Police Constable Hospitalized In Critical Condition Following ‘Incident’ At Sangre Grande Police Station

UPDATE (24/02/26): The injured Officer has been identified as PC Jonathan Bonaldo, who is assigned to the Sangre Grande Police Station. He is still receiving treatment for his severe injuries at Hospital. Bonaldo reportedly managed to get to his feet after his fall and made his way into the station’s Charge Room. Bleeding from the head, he is said to have rested his head on the Station Diary, leaving it stained with blood. He then walked into the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office, where he laid down on a desk, before being rushed for emergency medical treatment. 28-Year-Old Man Shot Dead Inside Car In Santa Cruz; 23 Spent Shells Found

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Santa Cruz last night (Wednesday 25th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old labourer, Hakeem Baker, also known as “Peng,” of Northwest Drive, Patna Village, Diego Martin. He was gunned down inside a car. According to reports, Officers of the North Eastern Division were alerted about several loud explosions heard on Sun Valley Extension, La Canoa Road, shortly before 9:00 PM, and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Baker’s body slumped with multiple gunshot wounds in the front passenger seat of a silver Nissan B14, which was partly in a drain at the side of the road. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Barataria earlier today (Sunday 1st March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Rivaldo Pierre of Gilkes Street, Four Roads, Diego Martin.  According to reports, Pierre was shot inside a house along 10th Street, Barataria. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. However, Pierre succumbed to his injuries. A man has died at Hospital, days after a shooting incident during a robbery at his sales tent in Gulf View on Saturday night (14th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Vijay Nanan of Rousillac. According to reports, the businessman and his employee, 40-year-old Yudelcy Martinez, were conducting sales at his tent along Gulf View Link Road, when two (2) men dressed in dark clothing stormed in and announced a robbery, around 7:00 PM.
