P.M. Kamla Persad-Bissessar In Saint Kitts And Nevis For CARICOM Meeting

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, and her delegation have arrived in Saint Kitts and Nevis for the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which takes place from today (Tuesday 24th February, 2026) to Friday (27th February, 2026). 

Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Jearlean John, has been designated to act as Prime Minister until Mrs. Persad-Bissessar’s return to Trinidad and Tobago.

The 50th Regular Meeting, under the theme, “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM,” will be chaired by the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, who assumed the Chairmanship of the Community on 1st January, 2026.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar is scheduled to deliver an address at the Opening Ceremony today (Tuesday 24th February, 2026) at the Marriott Dome in Frigate Bay. She is joined by Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Nicholas Morris, Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Farley Augustine, and Senior Government Officials. 

Other speakers will include Prime Minister Drew; the Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica; recently appointed Heads of Government from across the region; and the Secretary-General of CARICOM, Dr. Carla Barnett.

From Wednesday (25th February, 2026) to Friday (27th February, 2026), Heads of Government will engage in substantive discussions on priority areas. Special guests expected to participate include Senior Officials of the United States Government; His Excellency Adel al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia; and Dr. George Elombi, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

On the margins of the Meeting, Trinidad and Tobago will pursue a series of bilateral engagements, including discussions with United States officials and representatives of Afreximbank, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, security, trade, and development.

The T&T Government said it “reaffirms its intention to sustain and expand constructive relations with partners in the international community.”
