Schoolboy Dies After Plunging From Fifth Floor of St. James Apartment Complex
A teenage boy has died after allegedly falling from a Housing Development Corporation (HDC) apartment complex in St. James early Sunday morning (22nd February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 13-year-old Armani Alleyne, a student of St. Mary’s Mucurapo Boys’ R.C. Primary School, where he was known as a talented and dedicated footballer.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the HDC Vieux Fort development, where the teen was said to be battling a fever since returning home from school on Friday (20th February, 2026), after complaining of feeling unwell. He remained at home on Saturday as his illness persisted.
Sometime that night, while asleep and still feverish, Alleyne reportedly rushed into his mother’s bedroom, shouting that he was hearing his brother’s voice calling him. Within moments, he turned and sprinted out of the room toward the balcony of the fifth-floor apartment.
Tragically, before anyone could intervene, the boy leaped over the railing, plunging an estimated forty (40) to fifty (50) feet onto a concrete slab below.
Alleyne sustained critical injuries to his torso and legs and was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, where he succumbed to his injuries around 3:00 AM on Sunday (22nd February, 2026).Police were notified and Officers from the St. James Police Station responded. They have classified the matter as an unnatural death.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding his death, while family, school and community members mourn the tragic loss.
