Man Shot Dead By Police Following Home Invasion In Valsayn
A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in St. Joseph on Monday afternoon (16th March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Sharaz Samaroo, aka ‘Glasses,’ who was allegedly involved in a home invasion earlier that day in Valsayn.
According to reports, four (4) masked men entered a family’s home along Valsayn Avenue, shortly before 1:00 PM. The men confronted an elderly woman who was seated on a couch inside the house. However, before they could carry out the robbery, the assailants were startled by a male occupant of the house and quickly made their escape.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage inside the home.
The suspects are said to have entered the family’s home from Farm Road (Bangladesh), located at the back of their property.
Police were alerted and during follow-up enquiries, Officers of the National Special Operations Unit’s Home Invasion Team reportedly traced one of the suspects to the St. Joseph area.
The Officers later encountered Samaroo along Farm Road around 3:30 PM, where there was a confrontation. Police allege the suspect pointed a firearm at them, prompting the Officers to open fire.
Samaroo was shot and taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, where he was pronounced dead.
A loaded firearm was reportedly recovered at the scene of the shooting.
Police said Samaroo was considered a prime suspect in several home invasion and robbery reports.
Two (2) other suspects, including a 14-year-old boy, were arrested while fleeing the family’s home.
A third suspect remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend him.
Investigations are continuing.
More on this as it becomes available.
