Minister of Trade Welcomes Strengthened Economic Partnership Between T&T And United States

Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, has welcomed the outcome of discussions between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and senior officials of the United States Government during the recent Shield of the Americas Summit in Miami.

In a Media Release today (Monday 9th March, 2026), the Ministry said the Prime Minister’s engagement with the United States, Trinidad and Tobago’s largest trading partner, “marks an important step toward strengthening economic cooperation, expanding investment opportunities, and supporting job creation within the national economy.”




Minister Maharaj noted that the agreements and understandings emerging from the summit signal a renewed phase of collaboration between the two (2) countries, particularly in areas such as trade facilitation, investment promotion, energy cooperation, and economic development.

“The United States has long been Trinidad and Tobago’s most significant trading partner. Strengthening this relationship is critical to expanding market opportunities for our businesses, attracting new investment, and supporting sustainable economic growth,” the Minister stated.

The Minister further highlighted that deepening engagement with the United States is especially important at this time, as Trinidad and Tobago continues its efforts to stimulate economic activity and create new employment opportunities after a prolonged period of economic stagnation over the past decade.

According to the Minister, the Prime Minister’s participation in the Shield of the Americas Summit and the agreements signed during the visit will help position Trinidad and Tobago as a more attractive destination for foreign direct investment, while also opening pathways for local companies to expand exports into the North American market.

“This strengthened partnership will help facilitate greater investment flows into Trinidad and Tobago, encourage collaboration between our private sectors, and support the development of new industries capable of generating high-quality jobs for our citizens,” Minister Maharaj added.

The Ministry said it will “continue working closely with relevant stakeholders, including the private sector and international partners, to translate the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s meetings into tangible economic opportunities for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”

The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Government remains committed to leveraging its international partnerships to diversify the economy, expand exports, and drive long-term national development.”

25-Year-Old Woman Charged With Murder of Chaguanas Businessman Gregory Reece

A woman has been charged with the murder of   Chaguanas businessman Gregory Reece , who was stabbed to death at her apartment in Woodford Gardens on Sunday 28th June, 2026. She has been identified as 25-year-old Aaliyah Naipal of corner of Oak Avenue and Coconut Drive, Woodford Gardens. Naipal, who was previously detained following the fatal stabbing incident, appeared before a High Court Master on Monday (6th July, 2026). According to reports, 46-year-old Reece arrived at the apartment in a Toyota SUV shortly before an altercation broke out inside the residence. During the confrontation, he sustained a stab wound. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of D'Abadie, Chaguanas, Princes Town, Mafeking and Point Fortin on Wednesday (29th July, 2026). TWO (2) Suspects Arrested Following Armed Robbery At Chaguanas Mini-Mart

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a man and a woman were arrested and a firearm recovered, following a co-ordinated Police response to an armed robbery at a mini-mart in Chaguanas this afternoon (Friday 17th July, 2026). At approximately 12:55 PM, Officers of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) responded to a report of a robbery with aggravation at a mini-mart, located along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas. The TTPS said preliminary enquiries revealed that two (2) suspects arrived at the business establishment in a silver Toyota Aqua. The driver remained in the vehicle while the other suspect, armed with a firearm, entered the mini-mart, announced a robbery, and discharged two (2) shots before stealing a quantity of cash from the proprietor. Missing Woman Alleges She Was Kidnapped, Drugged, Tortured Before Being Found On Mayaro Beach

Shahnaaz Ali, the 31-year-old woman who was found in Mayaro the day after she failed to return home from work in Port-of-Spain , has told Police that she was kidnapped, drugged and tortured before being left abandoned near a beach in Mayaro. Ali was found wandering along Gran Lagoon Beach, Mayaro, around 7:00 AM on Saturday (4th July, 2026), after reportedly escaping from her captors. According to Ali, she had parked her vehicle in Port-of-Spain on Friday (3rd July, 2026) and was walking to a nearby business, when she was approached by a man of Spanish descent. Venezuelan Woman Stabbed To Death By Boyfriend During Confrontation At Chaguanas Home

UPDATE (12/07/26): Police have launched a manhunt for the 23-year-old boyfriend of Kelimar Del Jesus Duran Morillo, following her fatal stabbing early Saturday morning. The incident unfolded just hours after Morillo and her on-and-off boyfriend of three (3) years attended his birthday celebration at his parents’ home in Endeavour, Chaguanas. Police believe Morillo left the gathering at around 1:50 AM on Saturday morning to return to her apartment because she was scheduled to work later that morning. UPDATE (29/07/26):  The Government of Guyana has confirmed that a survivor of the MV Barima disaster has died, as an extensive search-and-recovery operation involving three (3) aircraft and fifteen (15) vessels continues across the country’s Northwestern waters — stretching West to Waini Point and East to Adventure. A man is dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident in Siparia on Thursday (16th July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Akeil Packet, also known as “Shaka.” He was killed just weeks after his brother was also murdered in Siparia . According to reports, gunmen alighted from a vehicle and opened fire on Packet, who was at his shop, located along Railway Road, Siparia. During the attack, a female was also wounded. A teenager is dead following a horrific road traffic accident in Moruga early this morning (Sunday 5th July, 2026).
