Armed Bandit Shot Dead By Police During Cunupia Home Invasion — TTPS Investigating

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is investigating a Police‑involved shooting incident which occurred during a home invasion in progress in the Cunupia District, early this morning (Wednesday 20th May, 2026).

According to the TTPS, around 4:30 AM, Officers were alerted by the E999 Command Centre to a report of a “man on premises,” where the homeowners were out of the country. 

Upon arrival, Officers from the Central Division Task Force and Cunupia Police Station heard crashing sounds emanating from within the building. The Officers announced themselves and, in keeping with the Use of Force policy, made entry into the structure. 

Upon entering the premises, Officers were confronted by a man of mixed descent, armed with an apparent firearm, who engaged them. 

Fearing imminent and immediate danger to their lives, and in keeping with the Use of Force policy, Officers discharged their service-issued firearms in the direction of the threat, following which the suspect fell to the ground with injuries. 

He was immediately transported to the Chaguanas Health Facility for medical attention, where he succumbed. 

A firearm was recovered at the scene. 

Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, commended the Officers for their quick response and stated, “Let this incident serve as an unmistakable warning to anyone who believes they can terrorize communities or violate the sanctity of people’s homes. If you choose to arm yourselves, invade the homes of others, and confront law enforcement, you will face the full weight of the TTPS.” 

Continuing, the Commissioner noted that, “Our Officers will act decisively, lawfully, and without hesitation to protect life, property, and the safety of every community across Trinidad and Tobago. Home invasions are not crimes of opportunity and will be treated as calculated acts of violence, geared towards terrorizing law-abiding citizens. I want to assure the public that the TTPS will continue to respond with the urgency and necessary force required, to stop those who engage in these crimes.”

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has responded to several acts of violence which were recorded and shared across social media over the long Independence Day weekend. 22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. According to reports, Rahaman was driving a white Nissan AD wagon, heading West along the Western Main Road with a passenger later identified as 21-year-old Faraaz Hosein of Hosein Drive, St. Lucien Road, Diego Martin. Missing Elderly Man Found Dead Under Suitcases At House In Curepe — Police Investigating

The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Morvant early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026) — bringing the number of people killed in Morvant since Tuesday (8th September, 2026) to four (4).
