Traffic Disruption: Desilting Works Along Couva Main Road

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure is advising the public of a temporary traffic disruption along the Couva Main Road, in the vicinity of Scotia Bank, heading West to the Inshan Ali Promenade and ending near Railway Road.

This disruption has become necessary to facilitate desilting works for flooding alleviation in this area.

These works are scheduled to take place from 8:00 PM on Saturday (16th May, 2026) to 4:00 AM on Sunday (17th May, 2026).

Motorists are therefore advised to:

  • Proceed with caution and observe all directional signs, barriers and traffic management measures in place.
  • Comply with instructions from Police Officers and flag personnel on-site to ensure the safe and orderly flow of traffic.
  • Exercise caution when approaching the work zone and be mindful of equipment entering and exiting the area.
  • Reduce speed when approaching and traversing the work zone.

The Ministry said it regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for its continued co-operation and understanding.

UPDATE 2:  The TTPS confirmed today (Tuesday 19th May, 2026) that seven (7) persons — three (3) females and four (4) males — have been detained as investigations continue into the disappearance of 2-year-old Angelo Tobias. The Cyber Unit is analyzing electronic devices seized, while searches continue in Tobago. UPDATE: Members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT), led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, continued extensive operations at the Studley Park Landfill in Tobago today (Monday 18th May, 2026) as the desperate search for missing 2-year-old Angelo Tobias entered its seventh day. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is confirming that upon receipt of a report regarding the disappearance of 2-year-old Angelo Tobias of Goodwood, Tobago , on Monday 11th May, 2026, Officers immediately initiated a co-ordinated and comprehensive response. In a Media Release this morning (Sunday 17th May, 2026), the TTPS said, “A thorough search operation was promptly undertaken in and around the vicinity of the child’s residence, involving multiple agencies. This included extensive searches of surrounding areas as well as nearby coastal waters, where the child was last reportedly seen. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Blanchisseuse on Monday (18th May, 2026). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works — 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.   According to T&TEC, the affected areas in Blanchisseuse are as follows:  From LP #52 heading North on Paria Main Road, including National Quarries, ASA Wright Centre, Morne Bleu Radio Station, Morne La Croix, Brasso Seco, Brasso Seco R.C. There has been a major breakthrough in the disappearance of 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza , with Police confirming this morning (Wednesday 20th May, 2026) that a male relative, identified as the child’s stepfather, Shannon Miller, has confessed to his murder. Baby Angelo was reported missing since around 7:30 PM on Monday 11th May, 2026. UPDATE (18/05/26): Investigators believe Daniel Mclean may have fallen from a coconut tree, hit his head and rolled into the nearby sea, as his body was reportedly found with head wounds. EDITOR’S NOTE: The body of this article has been updated with new details. The body of a man was located and retrieved from the sea in Blenheim, Tobago, on Friday morning (15th May, 2026) by members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT). The deceased has been identified as Daniel Mclean of Bacolet, Tobago. He was a father of one (1) and an employee of Dane Phillip Plumbing and Enterprises, who was also known for earning extra income by picking coconuts.
