146 Cannabis Plants, Ammunition Seized Following Police-Involved Shooting Incident In Santa Cruz

A man was arrested and quantities of illegal ammunition and cannabis seized, following a Police-involved shooting incident in the North Eastern Division last night (Sunday 28th June, 2026).

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), reports indicate that Officers were on mobile patrol around 10:45 PM, when they received information about a suspicious vehicle in the Pax Vale, Santa Cruz district.

The Officers proceeded to the area, where they observed the vehicle, which then sped off. The Officers gave chase with their siren and swivel lights engaged.

Upon reaching Positive Street, an armed occupant alighted from the rear of the vehicle and allegedly fired two (2) shots at the Police vehicle. One of the officers, in keeping with the TTPS’ Use of Force policy, returned fire in the direction of the assailant, who fled into an empty lot of land and escaped.

As the Officers approached the vehicle, the driver exited and was arrested.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 146 cannabis plants in three (3) cardboard boxes in the trunk.

The suspect was also found to be in possession of a Glock pistol with two (2) magazines, containing thirty-four (34) rounds of 9mm ammunition. The suspect produced an FUL booklet for the said pistol.

Further searches were conducted at the suspect’s home, which resulted in the discovery of a quantity of ammunition not listed in the FUL booklet. An additional quantity of cannabis was also seized from the location.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matter.
