‘Batman,’ Gang of Thieves Fail To Steal FCB ATM Using Backhoe In Plymouth, Tobago; Manhunt On For Suspects

UPDATE (27/06/26): At least two (2) suspects have been arrested by Police in connection with this daring attempted robbery, including the one dubbed “Batman” due to his attire. The ATM vault, valued at $238,000, was found lying in the parking area near the roadway after the suspects fled the scene. A check of the vault revealed that it contained $641,000 in cash.

The large opening in the wall of the building is said to have caused approximately $185,000 in damage. Two (2) FCB signs were also destroyed by the backhoe, with damage estimated at $40,000.

Police in Tobago are searching for several masked men, including a Batman-like character in a cape, who attempted to steal an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) using a backhoe in Plymouth, Tobago, early this morning (Wednesday 24th June, 2026).

The suspects allegedly targeted the First Citizens Bank (FCB) ATM located at Supreme Plaza, Shelbourne Street, Plymouth, after stealing a backhoe and a truck from a nearby area.

According to reports, three (3) Estate Constables assigned to the YMCA and Beach Sports Facility in Courland, were on duty when they were approached by two (2) masked men. The men allegedly demanded the keys to a yellow Caterpillar backhoe (TDY 2070) and a white Mazda truck.

Police said the suspects then drove the vehicles to Shelbourne Street, where they used the backhoe to break into the ATM and remove the vault, shortly after 2:00 AM.

However, the robbery was unsuccessful after the arm of the backhoe reportedly became damaged during the operation, forcing the suspects to abandon their use of the heavy machinery.

The men then attempted to manually lift the heavy vault and place it into the bed of the waiting truck, without success.

They then fled the area in the truck, heading East towards Bethesda, Plymouth. The truck was later discovered abandoned at Adventure Trace.

The entire attempted heist was captured on CCTV footage, spanning approximately ten (10) minutes.

 

FCB has since issued a Customer Notice, advising that the ATM has been decommissioned. The bank stated: “Our ATM located at #61 Supreme Plaza, Shelbourne Street, Plymouth, Tobago has been decommissioned. Please use any of our other conveniently located ATMs. For your added convenience, please use our Easy Banking Channels: Mobile Banking, Online Banking or Telebanking. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for understanding.”

Investigations are continuing into the daring attempted robbery by Officers from the Tobago Division’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Task Force Area North.

TWO (2) Suspects Arrested Following Armed Robbery At Chaguanas Mini-Mart

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a man and a woman were arrested and a firearm recovered, following a co-ordinated Police response to an armed robbery at a mini-mart in Chaguanas this afternoon (Friday 17th July, 2026). At approximately 12:55 PM, Officers of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) responded to a report of a robbery with aggravation at a mini-mart, located along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas. Shahnaaz Ali, the 31-year-old woman who was found in Mayaro the day after she failed to return home from work in Port-of-Spain , has told Police that she was kidnapped, drugged and tortured before being left abandoned near a beach in Mayaro. UPDATE (12/07/26): Police have launched a manhunt for the 23-year-old boyfriend of Kelimar Del Jesus Duran Morillo, following her fatal stabbing early Saturday morning. A man is dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident in Siparia on Thursday (16th July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Akeil Packet, also known as “Shaka.” He was killed just weeks after his brother was also murdered in Siparia .
