Father of Joshua Samaroo In Custody After Allegedly Threatening To Kill Police Officers

The father of Joshua Samaroo, who was killed during a controversial Police-involved shooting incident earlier this year, has been detained under the State of Emergency Regulations after allegedly making a statement on live radio that investigators say was prejudicial to public safety.

Joshua was allegedly shot and killed by Police in St. Augustine on 20th January, 2026, following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. The shooting left his girlfriend, Kaia Sealy, critically injured. CCTV footage appeared to show Joshua seated inside the vehicle with his hands raised before Officers opened fire.

According to reports, 63-year-old Christopher Samaroo of River Range Road, La Seiva, Maraval, became the subject of a Police investigation after making certain comments while speaking about the death of his son, Joshua Samaroo, during the Father's Day edition of the “Eye on Dependency” radio programme on i95.5 FM, on Sunday (21st June, 2026).

Police said Samaroo was detained under Regulation 11 of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026, which deals with statements deemed likely to be prejudicial to public safety. Investigators allege that during the live broadcast he stated: “Left it up to me I will just get a gun and every Policeman I see I will kill them.” During the emotional radio discussion, which focused on grief, fatherhood and the loss of a child, Samaroo expressed frustration with both the Police and the justice system before making the controversial statement.


The next day (Monday 22nd June, 2026), Samaroo and his Attorney, Aaron Steven Lewis, visited the Central Police Station in Port-of-Spain in an apparent effort to address the controversy surrounding the remarks.

Speaking with CNC3, Samaroo maintained that his comments had been taken out of context. “I didn't mean it like that,” he insisted, adding that his statement had been “misconstrued.” 

Later that day, Samaroo also visited the St. Clair Police Station with his Attorney, where he was formally interviewed by investigators. Officers there informed Samaroo that he was the subject of an investigation into statements allegedly made during the radio programme.

Investigators subsequently detained him under the State of Emergency Regulations as enquiries progressed.

On Monday evening, Officers escorted Samaroo to his Maraval residence, where a search was conducted under Regulation 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026, which grants Police the authority to search premises in connection with investigations being conducted under the State of Emergency framework.

Police reported that no firearms, ammunition, illegal items or evidential material were discovered and nothing was seized.

Following the search, Samaroo was taken to the Woodbrook Police Station where he remains detained.

The radio station has since deleted the programme from its Facebook and YouTube platforms.

Investigations are continuing.

TWO (2) Suspects Arrested Following Armed Robbery At Chaguanas Mini-Mart

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a man and a woman were arrested and a firearm recovered, following a co-ordinated Police response to an armed robbery at a mini-mart in Chaguanas this afternoon (Friday 17th July, 2026). At approximately 12:55 PM, Officers of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) responded to a report of a robbery with aggravation at a mini-mart, located along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas. Shahnaaz Ali, the 31-year-old woman who was found in Mayaro the day after she failed to return home from work in Port-of-Spain , has told Police that she was kidnapped, drugged and tortured before being left abandoned near a beach in Mayaro. UPDATE (12/07/26): Police have launched a manhunt for the 23-year-old boyfriend of Kelimar Del Jesus Duran Morillo, following her fatal stabbing early Saturday morning. A man is dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident in Siparia on Thursday (16th July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Akeil Packet, also known as “Shaka.” He was killed just weeks after his brother was also murdered in Siparia . A teenager is dead following a horrific road traffic accident in Moruga early this morning (Sunday 5th July, 2026).
