Gun-Toting Man Shot Dead By Police Hours After Firing Shot Into Air In San Fernando

UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Damani Lewis, who was believed to be involved in several violent offences, including home invasions, firearm-related crimes, shooting incidents, larcenies and sexual offences involving a minor.

Officers received intelligence on Wednesday 10th June, 2026 that the suspect was hiding at an apartment in Cypress Ridge, Union Hall, San Fernando. Acting under the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026, Officers entered the premises shortly after 12:00 PM and began a systematic search of the apartment. During the exercise, Officers reportedly discovered the suspect hiding in the ceiling of the apartment. 

The man attempted to evade capture but fell through the ceiling into another room. Police allege that upon seeing the Officers, Lewis pointed what appeared to be a firearm in their direction and he was shot in the leg and chest during an alleged exchange of gunfire. Officers immediately secured the weapon and transported him to the San Fernando General Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where he subsequently died.

A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in San Fernando on Wednesday afternoon (10th June, 2026). The deceased has been identified only by the alias “Manny.”

According to reports, the man was recorded openly brandishing a pistol and firing a shot into the air earlier in the day at Cypress Hills, Union Hall, San Fernando, in videos circulated on social media. 


Hours later, however, “Manny” was tracked down and confronted by Police at Building 32, Cypress Hills, around 1:30 PM. During the operation, the suspect was shot. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for emergency medical treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The fatal shooting occurred just hours after videos showed the suspect walking in the community with a gun in hand and later discharging a round into the air, sparking concern among members of the public and prompting an intensive effort by Police to locate the suspect.

Investigations are continuing.

A suspect was arrested shortly after a report of shooting with intent in the Port-of-Spain Division last night (Saturday 13th June, 2026), during a botched attempted robbery of a 29-year-old rideshare driver. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a male victim reported to Police that he was plying his private vehicle for hire in Port-of-Spain, around 9:20 PM, when he picked up two (2) female passengers, one of whom asked to be taken to Wharton Branch Road, Laventille, to collect an item. A schoolboy is dead and two (2) relatives critically wounded following a brutal shooting incident at their home in Marabella on Thursday night (11th June, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 13-year-old Krishan Khanai of Tramline Road, Union Park East, Marabella. A man is dead following a shooting incident at his home in South Oropouche late last night (Thursday 11th June, 2026).
