Education Minister Signals ‘Significant Improvement’ In SEA 2026 Results Ahead of Official Release

Minister of Education, Dr. Michael Dowlath, has signaled a “significant improvement” in this year’s Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) results, after getting a sneak preview ahead of the official release of the results at 11:00 PM tonight (Thursday 2nd July, 2026).

Dr. Dowlath made the revelation while speaking on Wednesday (1st July, 2026) at the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago’s (Amcham) 8th Annual Tech Hub Islands Summit (T.H.I.S.) 2026 - IMPACT, held at the Hyatt Regency. He was at the time praising the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Amcham, particularly support for an artificial intelligence platform that provided pupils with access to past SEA Mathematics examination papers.

The Minister stated, “And this is where I want to thank Amcham, through an NGO that they supported, that assisted the Ministry of Education in building and successfully introducing the SEA Mathematics Past Paper Al platform. You deserve a wonderful round of applause for that. Amcham has played its role, and I got a sneak preview of the SEA results, and there is significant improvement. You’ll hear more about it. So, thank you very much, Amcham, for your role!”

Dr. Dowlath also said the Government was expanding Wi-Fi bandwidth across all primary and secondary schools as part of efforts to improve digital access and advance the wider transformation of the education system. He said partnerships among government, industry, academia and technology companies would help prepare students not only for today’s jobs but also for careers that do not yet exist.

Meanwhile, in a message to students who will be receiving their results later today, Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, congratulated all pupils who wrote the examination and reminded them that their future would not be determined by a single test.

The Prime Minister stated, “I urge every student to remember that one examination does not define your future. Your character, determination, willingness to learn, and commitment to hard work will do far more to shape your success than any single examination ever could.”

She also congratulated parents, guardians and teachers for supporting pupils throughout their preparation and encouraged families to celebrate every child’s achievement, regardless of the secondary school they are assigned.

The Prime Minister also announced that incoming Form 1 students would receive free laptops when the new school term begins in September, as part of the Government’s efforts to modernize education and improve school safety.

A total of 17,509 pupils wrote the SEA examination on 26th March, 2026, compared with 17,870 candidates in 2025.

Last year, 11.65% of candidates (2,082 pupils) scored 30% or below, while 66.18% (11,827 pupils) achieved 50% or above. A total of 421 pupils, representing 2.36% of candidates, scored 90% or higher.

The national mean scores in 2025 were 52.1% in Mathematics, 66.7% in English Language Arts, and 56.2% in English Language Arts Writing.

Prime Minister RESPONDS To Several Acts of Violence Over Long Independence Day Weekend

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has responded to several acts of violence which were recorded and shared across social media over the long Independence Day weekend. 22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. According to reports, Rahaman was driving a white Nissan AD wagon, heading West along the Western Main Road with a passenger later identified as 21-year-old Faraaz Hosein of Hosein Drive, St. Lucien Road, Diego Martin. However, upon reaching the vicinity of Peake Trading Limited, Rahaman reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which entered the compound and struck a utility pole and part of the fencing, around 10:30 PM. Missing Elderly Man Found Dead Under Suitcases At House In Curepe — Police Investigating

The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. According to reports, Bandoo was last seen near his home on Saturday (5th September, 2026) while liming with friends for several hours. However, he never returned home afterwards. A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. 21-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Fourth Killing Since Tuesday

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Morvant early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026) — bringing the number of people killed in Morvant since Tuesday (8th September, 2026) to four (4).
