Massive Fire Destroys Gasparillo Supermarket, Home — Millions In Damage Reported

A massive fire caused millions of dollars in damage early Friday morning (3rd July, 2026) in Gasparillo, after destroying a two-storey building housing A&S Fyzool Supermarket and a home along Bonne Aventure Road.

According to reports, the blaze started shortly before 4:00 AM and left seven (7) people homeless. The family lived on the upper floor of the building, while the supermarket operated on the ground floor.

Firefighters are said to have battled the blaze for hours as chemicals, automotive oil and other flammable substances stored on the compound provided fuel for the fire.

Owner of A&S Fyzool Supermarket, Rick Mohammed, said a neighbour alerted him to the fire around 4:30 AM. He said his five (5) tenants were able to safely evacuate the burning building. “They evacuated in the back and they went through by the neighbour fence, so everybody is safe, so that is good.”

While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Mohammed suspects it may have been linked to an electrical issue. “It seems as though, I’m not saying it is, but it seems as though it’s electrical, because yesterday [Thursday], electricity went in the area, and it didn’t come back.”

Mohammed said the business also operated as a wholesale supplier of electronics, automotive oils, spray paints and other items.

Although firefighters responded quickly, he said they initially encountered water supply issues. “They had to get some trucks with some tanks and so on.”

He estimated his losses would amount to millions of dollars and described the destruction as complete.

“Well, we have, everything is a total loss. So, we have, to thank Allah for life. So, we just had ah build back up. So, total, total loss. No, no coming back.”

Assistant Chief Fire Officer for the Southern Division, Noel Stewart, said firefighters from the Mon Repos Fire Station initially responded, but crews from the Penal and Savonetta Fire Stations were later called in to assist. Personnel from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) also responded.

According to Stewart, “In that building they housed accelerants and aerosols and oils for vehicles, and that caused a bit of a challenge for us because there was constant burning and flaring up but we were able to contain the fire.”

Stewart said firefighters initially experienced water supply issues, but these were quickly resolved with assistance from additional fire appliances, WASA and the Regional Corporation.

He thanked all responding agencies for their assistance and efficiency, adding that firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to another residence behind the gutted building.

Stewart said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. Missing Elderly Man Found Dead Under Suitcases At House In Curepe — Police Investigating

The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Morvant early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026) — bringing the number of people killed in Morvant since Tuesday (8th September, 2026) to four (4).
