Pedestrian Struck Dead By Unmarked Police Vehicle While Attempting To Cross Uriah Butler Highway
A man is dead following a road traffic accident along the Uriah Butler Highway last night (Friday 3rd July, 2026). The deceased, who has not yet been identified, is believed to be a homeless man.
According to reports, the man was struck by an unmarked Police vehicle while attempting to cross the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, near Home and Beyond, around 9:40 PM.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene.
The driver, a 28-year-old Police Officer attached to the Criminal Investigations Department’s Crime Response Unit, told investigators he was on exercise duty, heading South, when a man suddenly appeared in front of the vehicle.
He reported that he was unable to stop in time and struck the pedestrian.
Responding Officers found the victim lying motionless on the roadway with catastrophic injuries.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who later pronounced the man dead and ordered a post-mortem examination.
The Officer was treated by Ambulance personnel following the collision.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
