25-Year-Old Welder Shot Dead By Fake Police Officers In St. Ann’s
A man is dead following a shooting incident in St. Ann’s, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday evening (20th August, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old welder, Jamal Williams, of Symond Valley Road, St. Ann’s. He was allegedly killed by gunmen dressed as Police Officers.
According to reports, Williams was liming along Symond Valley Road with another man, when a grey Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV with heavily tinted windows pulled along St. Ann’s Road, before reversing into Symond Valley Road, shortly before 7:00 PM. The vehicle stopped a short distance away before its driver’s door and two (2) rear passenger doors opened.
Three (3) armed men alighted from the vehicle, dressed in dark clothing and wearing bulletproof vests bearing the word “Police,” along with Police-style hats, and opened fire in the direction of Williams and the other man.
The other man reportedly jumped into a nearby river and escaped.
The gunmen then fled the scene in the grey SUV.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Williams lying along the roadway next to a black Kia Cerato, with multiple gunshot wounds. He showed no signs of life.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Williams dead and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre, pending a post-mortem examination.
Crime scene investigators recovered one (1) 9mm spent shell casing and two (2) .45-calibre spent shell casings.
Police have not yet established a motive for this murder.
