Freeport Man Gets $120,000 Bail After Being Charged With Fraud

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a Freeport man was granted bail with surety in the sum of $120,000 by a Justice of the Peace (JP), after he was charged this week with obtaining goods valued at $19,500 by false pretences.

The TTPS said Kimraj Nandlal was charged with the offence when he appeared before JP Carl Dattoo on Wednesday (19th August, 2026). He is expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Friday (21st August, 2026).

Reports indicate that on 3rd July, 2025, a man allegedly obtained glass products and other materials valued at $19,500, from a business owned by a Sangre Grande victim.

It is alleged that the suspect represented to the victim that payment for the goods would be made by way of an online bank transfer. Based on this representation, the suspect subsequently arranged for a representative to collect the goods.

However, the purported online payment was never received.

The suspect then provided a post-dated cheque in settlement of the outstanding amount. The cheque was accepted by the victim and deposited. However, it was returned as dishonoured.

All attempts made by the victim to recover the payment have since proved unsuccessful.

The matter was subsequently reported to the Fraud Squad (East) Office, and an investigation commenced by Cpl. (Ag.) Thomas.

The TTPS notes that on Monday (17th August, 2026), a co-ordinated, intelligence-led operation was conducted under the direction of Snr. Supt. Jackman, W/Supt. Theodore-Persad, and ASP Thomas and under the supervision of Insp. Bachoo and Cpl. Liverpool.

During the exercise, Officers proceeded to the Central Division, where they arrested a male suspect at a Freeport address.

Nandlal was charged with the offence by Cpl. (Ag.) Thomas on Tuesday (18th August, 2026), following consultation with Snr. Supt. Jackman, W/Supt. Theodore-Persad, ASP Thomas, Insp. Bachoo and Legal Officer, Sgt. Bassarath.
