Missing TTPS Firearm And Ammunition From Mayaro Police Station — Second Suspect In Court

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a Sangre Grande man was granted bail with surety in the sum of $100,000, after he appeared before the High Court, charged with misbehaviour in public office and firearm-related offences, arising out of an investigation into a missing TTPS firearm and ammunition at the Mayaro Police Station, in July 2026.

He is the second person to be charged in this matter.

The TTPS states that Azam Ali of Sangre Grande was charged with misbehaviour in public office, possession of firearm and possession of ammunition, when he appeared before Master Raydon Dalrymple-Watts, at the South High Court, earlier today (Monday 17th August, 2026). 

The accused was not called upon to plead and was granted bail with the conditions that he is:

  • to reside at his residence in Sangre Grande until determination of the matter;
  • to submit his Passport to the Registrar within two (2) days of securing bail; and
  • to not be permitted to obtain travelling documents.

The Status Hearing is scheduled for 29th October, 2026. 

Reports indicate that following internal checks at the Mayaro Police Station on 29th July, 2026, a TTPS firearm and a quantity of ammunition were discovered missing.

An internal investigation was immediately launched, which led to the recovery of the missing firearm, magazine and ammunition. 

A 23-year-old male Police Constable with nine (9) months’ service was detained. He appeared before the South Masters’ Court on 3rd August, 2026, charged with misbehaviour in public office. 

The TTPS notes that the second suspect was arrested on 7th August, 2026 and placed on a Preventive Detention Order (PDO).

Ali was charged by Sgt. (Ag.) Denoon.

This follows advice received from Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Anju Bhola, for him to be charged with misbehaviour in public office, jointly with the Police Officer, and also face the further charges of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.

22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. Missing Elderly Man Found Dead Under Suitcases At House In Curepe — Police Investigating

The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is seeking the urgent assistance of the public to find a missing mother and her infant son. 21-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Fourth Killing Since Tuesday

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Morvant early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026) — bringing the number of people killed in Morvant since Tuesday (8th September, 2026) to four (4).
