According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), we can expect variably cloudy conditions today (Friday 21st August, 2026), with scattered showers and the medium (60%) chance of thunderstorm activity. These conditions are expected to become more settled during the afternoon. However, a few showers and the medium (60%) chance of isolated thunderstorm activity will likely persist over the Western half of Trinidad, at least until mid-afternoon.
Street/isolated flash flooding and gusty winds are possible in the event of heavy downpours.
The forecast maximum temperature today will be 30°C at Piarco in Trinidad and 29°C at Crown Point in Tobago.
Seas are moderate with waves near 1.5m in open waters and below 1m and choppy near showers in sheltered areas.
Recommendations for outdoor activities today:
Persons heading outdoors today should be prepared for variable weather conditions, including scattered showers and a 60% chance of thunderstorms, particularly over the Western half of Trinidad through mid-afternoon. Carry an umbrella or raincoat, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution on the roads, as heavy downpours could cause street or isolated flash flooding, while thunderstorms may produce sudden gusty winds. Outdoor activities should be planned with access to safe shelter, and persons should avoid open areas and seek shelter indoors if thunder is heard. With temperatures reaching around 30°C in Trinidad and 29°C in Tobago, stay hydrated and take breaks from prolonged exposure to heat. Those heading to the coast or engaging in marine activities should also exercise caution, as seas will be moderate, with waves around 1.5m in open waters and choppy conditions possible near showers in sheltered areas.
