Police Detain 53 Venezuelan Nationals In Curepe During Operation Border Shield

Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) have detained fifty-three (53) Venezuelan nationals during an intelligence-led operation conducted in Curepe.

According to the TTPS, “Operation Border Shield” was conducted between 11:00 PM on Friday night (11th September, 2026) and 5:00 AM on Saturday morning (12th September, 2026). It involved Officers of the CID/CRO Special Operations Unit, Immigration Investigations Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), Coastal and Air Support Unit (CASU), Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), Stolen Vehicles Squad and Transport Branch.

During the operation, the TTPS said Officers proceeded to a location along the Southern Main Road, Curepe, where fifty-three (53) adult Venezuelan nationals — four (4) men and forty-nine (49) women — were found and subsequently arrested after investigations revealed that they had entered Trinidad and Tobago illegally.

The suspects were interviewed and later conveyed to several Police Stations for safekeeping, pending further immigration investigations.

The exercise was spearheaded by ACP Kerwin Francis, Snr. Supt. Pariman and Supt. De Mattos. It was directly supervised by ASP Lazarus, Ag./Sgt. Castillo, Ag./Sgt. Ramdath and Cpl. Richardson.

Investigations are ongoing.
