T&TEC Incident Update: Adverse Weather Causes Disruptions In Sangre Grande
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), at approximately 8:21 AM this morning (Thursday 24th September, 2026), there was a fault experienced at the Ojoe Road 12kV feeder out of the Sangre Grande Sub Station. At the time, the area was experiencing heavy wind gusts and torrential rainfall.
Scattered thunderstorms associated with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) brought gusty winds to parts of Trinidad this morning, with a downburst affecting parts of Sangre Grande, ripping roofs off multiple homes and downing a cell tower on Ojoe Road. Power outages have been reported in parts of Central and Northeastern Trinidad.
T&TEC said subsequent checks “revealed a fallen communication cell tower which resulted in downed power lines, in the vicinity of Graham and Katwaroo Trace just off Ojoe Road in Sangre Grande. Additionally, a large tree became uprooted, eventually falling onto power lines at another location along Ojoe Road. Supply was restored to customers up to Adventist Street and Katwaroo Trace.”
Additional resources are assigned currently to help in expediting the remaining restoration works. Pending further assessment, T&TEC said an estimated time for full restoration is 6:00 PM.
The Commission said it “apologizes to affected customers and gives its assurance that we are working assiduously to ensure restoration in a timely manner.”
