Today’s Weather: Hot, Hazy, Isolated Heavy Showers — Significant Saharan Dust; 33°C Max

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), we can expect generally hot and hazy conditions during this afternoon (Friday 11th September, 2026), with a few brief showers, except for Southern coastal and Western gulf areas of Trinidad, where there is likely to be partly cloudy conditions, with a low to medium chance of an isolated heavy shower or thunderstorm. During the evening and night, encroaching cloudiness from the East is expected to produce a few showers and a medium to high chance for thunderstorm activity over Eastern coastal and near offshore areas of Trinidad, increasing inland from near Midnight.

In the event of a heavy shower or thunderstorm, gusty winds are to be expected, and street or flash flooding is likely in the vicinity.

The Met Office notes that there is a significant concentration of Saharan dust at present.

The forecast maximum temperature today will be 33°C at Piarco in Trinidad and 32°C at Crown Point in Tobago.

Seas are moderate with waves 2m to 2.5m in open waters and 1m but could become choppy in the vicinity of showers in sheltered areas.

Recommendations for outdoor activities today:

Persons planning to spend time outdoors today should stay well hydrated, wear lightweight, breathable clothing, and use sunscreen, hats or other protection from the hot, hazy conditions and significant Saharan dust concentration. Those with respiratory sensitivities should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exposure, particularly during hazy periods. If heading to the beach or engaging in marine activities, exercise caution as moderate seas and choppy conditions may develop near showers. Keep an eye on weather updates, especially later this evening and tonight, and seek shelter promptly if a heavy shower or thunderstorm develops, as gusty winds, street flooding and flash flooding are possible.
