TWO (2) Prison Officers And Inmate At Golden Grove Charged With Conspiracy Offences

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), two (2) Prison Officers attached to the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, and an inmate on remand for murder, were expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (17th September, 2026), charged with multiple offences, arising out of an attempt to smuggle illegal contraband into the prison in August 2026.

The TTPS said on 24th August, 2026, a female Prison Officer (PO) was searched by Officers at the Golden Grove Prison, after she attempted to enter the premises with quantities of cannabis, cigarettes and other contraband items.

She was later handed over to members of the DCP Operations Team, who commenced a 3-week long, intense investigation. Those investigations resulted in the arrest of a male Prison Officer (PO) on 28th August, 2026.

A male inmate, currently on remand for murder, was also identified as a third suspect in the matter.

On Monday (14th September, 2026), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) gave advice to jointly charge the three (3) suspects with conspiracy to introduce prohibited articles into the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca.

Meanwhile, the female PO is to be charged with:

  1. Trafficking in a dangerous drug, namely cannabis;
  2. Introducing prohibited articles into the Golden Grove Prison; and
  3. Bringing into the Golden Grove Prison, prohibited articles intended for a named inmate. 

The male PO faces charges of:

  1. Misbehaviour in public office by conspiring with two (2) named suspects to introduce prohibited articles into the Golden Grove Prison;
  2. Misbehaviour in public office by allowing to be brought into the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, prohibited articles; and
  3. Allowing prohibited articles to be brought into the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca.

And, the male inmate is to face charges of:

  1. Being in possession of prohibited articles;
  2. Causing another person to bring prohibited articles into the Golden Grove Prison;
  3. Transmitting sounds from inside a prison to a named suspect;
  4. Transmitting sounds from inside a prison to a named suspect; and
  5. Refusing to have fingerprints taken. 

The operation was co-ordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), ‘Operations,’ Suzette Martin and involved personnel from the DCP Operations Team, including ASP Stanley, Cpl. Williams, Cpl. Hyde, WPCs Joseph and Sampson and PCs Stanley, Gibson and De Leon. 

Also assisting in the investigations were Officers attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), led by Sgt. Maharaj, Prison Officers attached to the Prison Emergency Response Unit and PIT, the Fusion Centre, the Cyber Crime Unit led by Sgt. Walker and the Crime Scene Unit.

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has responded to several acts of violence which were recorded and shared across social media over the long Independence Day weekend. 22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. According to reports, Rahaman was driving a white Nissan AD wagon, heading West along the Western Main Road with a passenger later identified as 21-year-old Faraaz Hosein of Hosein Drive, St. Lucien Road, Diego Martin. Missing Elderly Man Found Dead Under Suitcases At House In Curepe — Police Investigating

The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. According to reports, Bandoo was last seen near his home on Saturday (5th September, 2026) while liming with friends for several hours. However, he never returned home afterwards. 36-Year-Old Carapichaima Man Shot Dead By Police — Mother, Brother Detained; Guns Seized

A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is seeking the urgent assistance of the public to find a missing mother and her infant son. In a Media Release on Wednesday (9th September, 2026), the TTPS said 32-year-old Valani Hema Baboolal and 4-year-old Ajay Lutchmansingh, of Chaguanas, were last seen on 24th August, 2026, and were reported missing at the Chaguanas Police Station on Tuesday (8th September, 2026). 21-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Fourth Killing Since Tuesday

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Morvant early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026) — bringing the number of people killed in Morvant since Tuesday (8th September, 2026) to four (4).
