Watch Live: Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max, Foldable iPhone Duo, AirPods 5 And More
Apple is set to unveil several new exciting devices at its highly-anticipated “Surprise and shine” launch event, scheduled for 1:00 PM ET this afternoon (Wednesday 9th September, 2026) at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The event will be Apple’s first since new CEO John Ternus officially stepped into the role on 1st September, 2026, taking over from a 15-year tenure by Tim Cook, who is now Chairman of the Board.

We are expecting to see the first models in Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup at this event — but only the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The base iPhone 18 is rumored to launch in the first few months of 2027, alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.
iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are rumored to have larger batteries than their predecessors, and possibly a smaller and upgraded Dynamic Island that can support three (3) tasks at once (up from two currently), major new pro camera hardware and software, plus an upgraded vapor chamber. They might even get a variable aperture camera upgrade that has been a part of the rumor mill for years now. Leaked photos supposedly showing dummy models of the phone also hint at this year’s slate of colors, which could include black, silver, dark cherry (burgundy) and light blue. Cherry will probably be the next hit, orange did very well. pic.twitter.com/2qpZDA7oEK There’s a much-more-than-zero chance that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will get a price bump over last year’s models, unfortunately, but they will likely come in at only US $100 higher than the phones they are replacing. Apple is clearly eating a lot of the memory shortage cost increases here. Both Google and Samsung also raised their prices recently by US $100. Apple raised prices on nearly all of its products earlier this year, and those price hikes might finally reach the iPhone during this event. iPhone Duo The long-rumored foldable iPhone — previously dubbed the “iPhone Ultra,” but now rumored to be called the “iPhone Duo” — is no doubt the device most people are looking forward to being finally unveiled at today’s event. This is expected to be released just a couple months after Samsung debuted its own passport-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Images of an apparent dummy model of the folding phone leaked earlier this year. This passport-style design is also said to be similar to the Xiaomi 18 Fold. According to Bloomberg’s well-sourced Mark Gurman, the short-and-wide design of the iPhone Duo will be ideal for watching video. It will also include Apple’s new in-house C2 modem and the A20 Pro chip, as well as the ability to run side-by-side apps and handle iPad-like multitasking. The phone is rumored to sport dual rear 48-megapixel cameras and a 12-megapixel one designed for videoconferencing. There will be a magnetic hinge system and support for the Apple Pencil stylus as well. First look at the iPhone Fold dummy unit. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/olMzm6t6Ts Gurman says Apple landed on the iPhone Duo name for the foldable iPhone and a US $2,000 starting price, eating the additional memory costs. Storage capacities will reach 2 terabytes and roughly US $3,000. The Duo is expected to go on sale as early as October and come in white and dark blue colors. Apple Watch Series 12 And Ultra 4 At last year’s September event, Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, and there is a good chance both watches will get an update again this year to the Series 12 and Ultra 4. According to Gurman, the Series 12 could bring back the premium ceramic case option. Gurman also says the Series 12 will have new band colors and configurations, but most likely would not receive any big redesign. Aside from new cases and colors, Apple might also announce new health features for its wearables, such as always-on heart rate sensing. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will have a privacy-focused AI feature, Gurman says, for analyzing your day, providing a summary of what took place, including conversations. It cannot show a transcript and does not record or store audio. The feature is reportedly called “Recaps” and it lives in the Siri app. It can run all day long, on demand or if you are at certain places. Gurman says he believes it will require new hardware that has an updated chip to secure the audio processing, and likened it to the Amazon Bee. Additionally, the Ultra 4 will gain better battery life. AirPods 5 Apple could also launch new AirPods at this event, but probably not the ones with built-in cameras that unexpectedly leaked last month, which are instead expected to be released in 2027, according to Gurman. The AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) were released in September 2024 and are definitely due for an upgrade. Hence, we could see an iterative upgrade to new AirPods 5 and AirPods 5 with ANC, potentially including a faster new chip and some new health sensors. The AirPods 5 with ANC will reportedly gain improvements to its noise cancellation features.
