The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is confirming that several communities across Trinidad experienced an outage at 4:45 AM this morning (Tuesday 27th October, 2026). The outage stemmed from two (2) generator trips at one (1) of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The affected areas included:
- Piarco, St. Augustine, Caroni, Valsayn, Chaguanas, Manzanilla, Freeport, Port-of-Spain, Biche, Craignish, Brickfield, Sangre Grande, Trincity, Fyzabad, Arouca, Charlieville, Cunupia, Orange Grove, Sea Lots, Chaguaramas, Rio Claro, Longdenville and Malabar.
T&TEC notes that restoration of customers’ electricity supply commenced at 5:21 AM on a phased basis, with full restoration achieved at 6:29 AM.
The Commission said it “acknowledges that some unplanned outages experienced in the recent past have resulted from generator trips at Independent Power Producer (IPP) facilities. As part of its commitment to improving reliability, the Commission continues to work closely with the IPPs to review these events, address underlying causes, and implement preventative measures to minimize the risk of recurrence and enhance the stability of the national electricity grid.”
The Commission apologizes to customers for any inconvenience.
