Arima Man Shot Dead During Confrontation With Police In Sangre Grande

A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Sangre Grande last night (Thursday 25th September, 2025). The deceased has been identified as Mustapha Gulab of Buena Vista Street, Arima. According to reports, Officers on mobile patrol, around 7:05 PM, attempted to intercept a white Toyota Hilux that appeared suspicious, near the SWAHA Hindu College along the Cunapo Southern Main Road. However, as they approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly opened fire on Officers, prompting them to return fire. The vehicle came to a stop at Coalmine Bridge, where Officers discovered Gulab had been shot. He was transported to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police allege an AR-15 rifle and eleven (11) rounds of ammunition were recovered at the scene. Crime scene investigators also recovered several spent shells. Alert: Delay In Delivery of Social Welfare Cheques For October 2025

UPDATE (01/10/25): The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, along with members of the Ministry's Executive team, met with representatives of the National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) today (Wednesday 1st October, 2025), to discuss the delay in the delivery of Social Welfare cheques. No resolution has been announced thus far. The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services is advising the public that there will be a delay in the delivery of cheques to recipients of Social Welfare Grants (Senior Citizens' Pension, Disability Assistance and Public Assistance Grants and Food Support) for the month of October 2025 , due to unforeseen technical difficulties affecting the printing process. TTPost: Temporary Suspension of Mail Services To Canada

The Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPost) is advising the public that effective 25th September, 2025, the dispatch of mail to Canada (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) has been temporarily suspended until further notice. In a Public Notice issued today (Friday 26th September, 2025), TTPost said, “This suspension is due to a national strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), which has resulted in no movement of mail within Canada.” As a result, TTPost said Canada Post has requested that all international postal operators, including TTPost, temporarily cease the dispatch of mail to Canada. International items already received as of 25th September, 2025 will be securely stored in Canada by Canada Post until the strike ends. San Francique Carpenter In Court For Fraud; Granted $40K Bail

A San Francique carpenter was granted own-bail in the sum of $40,000, after he appeared before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (25th September, 2025), charged with fraud. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Stephen Mohammed was charged with fraudulent conversion in the sum of $2,500, when he appeared before Master Kateisha Ambrose Persadsingh, on Thursday.  He was not called upon to plead and granted bail. The matter was adjourned to 23rd October, 2025, and transferred to the Siparia Magistrates’ Court.  Reports indicate that in 2022, a victim made a down-payment to a carpenter for the construction and delivery of a wardrobe within a three (3) to four (4) week period. T&TEC: NO Electricity On Friday In Parts of Champs Fleurs And La Romaine

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Champs Fleurs and La Romaine on Friday (26th September, 2025). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works.  According to T&TEC, the affected areas in Champs Fleurs and La Romaine are as follows:  CHAMPS FLEURS (9:30 AM to 2:30 PM)   From LP #50 to LP #74 Quarry Drive. LA ROMAINE (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM)   LP #1 to LP #6 Silva Street, La Romaine, and all associated side streets. T&TEC says it regrets the inconvenience which may be caused by these interruptions.

S&P Affirms T&T's Investment Grade Rating — But Revises Outlook To ‘Negative’

Rating agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) affirmed Trinidad and Tobago's investment grade rating at BBB- today (Thursday 25th September, 2025), while revising the outlook from “stable” to “negative.” In a Media Release today, the Honourable Davendranath Tancoo, Minister of Finance, said, “S&P's affirmation of Trinidad and Tobago's investment grade status reflects the country's long established democratic institutions, economic stability, favourable external profile and buffers (‘This profile includes a strong external creditor position, supported by assets in the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund (HSF)’). WASA: Supply Disruption To Parts of Gasparillo

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers of unplanned water interruption due to maintenance work at the Springland Booster Station, Gasparillo. Affected areas are as follows:  Cotton Hill, School Trace, Lightbourne Road, Samlalsingh Trace, Houssa Trace, Perry Road, and parts of Bonne Aventure Main Road.  WASA notes that restoration is expected by 4:00 PM on Saturday afternoon (27th September, 2025).   The Authority thanks customers for their patience and understanding.

18-Year-Old Man In Court For Violent Robbery In Sangre Grande; Granted $150K Bail

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the father of an 18-year-old man will stand as surety for $150,000 bail after the accused appeared before a Master of the High Court, this week, charged with robbery with violence, malicious damage and interfering with a motor vehicle.   The accused was not called upon to plead and granted bail, when he appeared in the North Master’s High Court. He is also required to report to the Sangre Grande Police Station two (2) days per week, between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, reside at an address in Sangre Grande and observe a curfew between the hours of 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, daily. The matter was transferred to the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court and adjourned to 15th October, 2025.  A victim reported to Police that he was plying his motor vehicle for hire, around 8:10 PM on Thursday 11th September, 2025, when he picked up three (3) men who asked to be taken to Manrick Street, Sangre Grande.
