The Department of Natural Resources and Forestry (DNRF) under the Division of Environment, Climate Resilience and Energy (DECRE) is confirming that two (2) men were arrested during a wildlife enforcement operation at Lambeau Beach, Tobago, at approximately 9:00 AM on Thursday (30th July, 2026). During the operation, Officers discovered what is believed to be the carcass of a sea turtle together with a quantity of turtle meat and turtle eggs believed to have been unlawfully removed from a nesting site. The two (2) suspects were arrested and taken to the Shirvan Police Station, where further investigations into the matter continue. The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure is advising the public of a temporary traffic disruption along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and the Beetham Highway, from Monday 3rd August, 2026 to Friday 7th August, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM. This disruption is necessary to facilitate routine maintenance works, including an intensive vegetation-control exercise comprising grass cutting, edging, weeding and debris collection. The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said it is aware of “inaccurate and misleading information currently circulating on social media regarding the online payment of Fixed Penalty Notices.” In a Media Release today (Friday 31st July, 2026), the Ministry is advising that members of the public “should exercise caution when relying on information from unofficial sources, as the circulation of inaccurate information has the potential to cause confusion and unnecessary concern.” Members of the public are reminded to rely on official Ministry communications for accurate information and updates on matters under the Ministry’s responsibility. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), we can expect partly cloudy periods with a few showers today (Friday 31st July, 2026). There is a medium (40%) chance of the isolated heavy shower/thunderstorm, favouring Western and hilly areas. Tonight will be mostly fair, despite isolated showers. In the event of heavy showers/thunderstorm activity, gusty winds are likely and street/flash flooding is likely in areas so prone. The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is advising the public that the Online Driver’s Licence Renewal Service will be temporarily unavailable today (Thursday 30th July, 2026), from 6:00 PM to 11:59 PM, due to scheduled maintenance. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), four (4) detainees who escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) on 18th July, 2026 , appeared before Master Singh-Phillip at the High Court North A on Friday (24th July, 2026), where they pleaded guilty to the offence of escaping lawful custody. The four (4) male detainees were sentenced to terms of hard labour, ranging from nine (9) to fifteen (15) months. Three (3) additional detainees appeared before Master Dalrymple Watts at the High Court North A on Tuesday (28th July, 2026), where they also pleaded guilty to the offence of escaping lawful custody. The three (3) male detainees were sentenced to terms of hard labour, ranging from one (1) to two (2) months. All seven (7) detainees were scheduled to re-appear before the High Court today (Wednesday 29th July, 2026), to answer two (2) counts of assaulting a Police Officer.
