41-Year-Old Barrackpore Man Charged With Manslaughter of Father; Granted $400,000 Bail

A 41-year-old resident of Barrackpore has been charged with the unlawful killing (manslaughter) of his father, 63-year-old Ramesh Lalbeharry, who died on Tuesday 6th January, 2026.

In a Media Release today (Tuesday 27th January, 2026), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the accused, Brandon Lalbeharry, a labourer of Hassanali Trace, South Lower Barrackpore, was formally charged on Wednesday 21st January, 2026, following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) (Ag.), Mrs. Subrina Dougdeen-Jaglal. The charge was laid by Corporal Huggins of the Barrackpore Police Station.

Investigations revealed that on Wednesday 31st December, 2025, at approximately 3:00 PM, the deceased was attending a family gathering at his home in Hassanali Trace South, Lower Barrackpore, where he resided along with the accused and other relatives. During the gathering, the deceased engaged in a heated argument with the accused. Shortly thereafter, Ramesh Lalbeharry was seen walking towards the rear of his home, where moments later he was discovered lying on the ground in a semi-conscious state and vomiting beneath a coconut tree.

Relatives transported him to the San Fernando General Hospital for medical treatment, where he remained warded until Tuesday 6th January, 2026, when he succumbed to his injuries.

Following investigations, the TTPS said Brandon Lalbeharry was arrested on Saturday 17th January, 2026. Subsequent consultations with the Office of the DPP resulted in a recommendation for him to be charged with manslaughter.

The accused appeared before Master Delecia Bethelmy at the South Criminal Court “C” on Thursday 22nd January, 2026. 

The matter was adjourned to Friday 12th June, 2026 for a status hearing, while a sufficiency hearing was scheduled for Wednesday 30th September, 2026.

Brandon Lalbeharry was granted bail with surety in the sum of $400,000 and was warned not to communicate with any prosecution witnesses, either directly or through a third party.

The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Bridgemohan, assisted by a team of Homicide Officers and Corporal Huggins, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent Anil Maharaj, all of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III.
