41-Year-Old Man Dies After Suffering Heart Attack, Crashing SUV Into Car On Highway, Near Caroni

UPDATE: Bhola Randy Siew was a respected staff member at the Alma Jordan Library at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine, where he worked in the Acquisitions and Continuing Resources Unit. News of his death has left colleagues and members of the academic community in shock.

A man is dead after reportedly suffering a heart attack and crashing his SUV into the back of a car along the Uriah Butler Highway, near Caroni, last night (Sunday 29th March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Bhola Randy Siew of Alice Street, Curepe. This is the second road fatality recorded on Sunday along the Northbound lane of the Highway.

According to reports, Siew was heading North along the Uriah Butler Highway, near Caroni, around 8:15 PM, when he suffered a myocardial infarction while driving a black Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV and slammed into the back of a Nissan Sylphy, driven by 40-year-old Himlal Samdeo of Claxton Bay.

Siew, who had two (2) elderly relatives in his vehicle, 70-year-old Ramkissoon Siew and 65-year-old Sambaye Siew, veered off the road after the crash, with both passengers sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The SUV eventually came to a stop, lying on its left side.

Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. 

A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Siew dead at the scene. 

The injured passengers were conveyed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, while Samdeo, the driver of the Sylphy, did not report any injuries.

Just several hours earlier, Michael King was killed instantly when a black pickup van, driven by 22-year-old Kevin Singh, crossed the median from the Southbound lanes of the Uriah Butler Highway, near the Munroe Road Flyover, and crashed into his black Kia Cerato on the Northbound lane. Several others were also injured in the horrific crash.

Investigations are continuing into both fatal road traffic accidents.

UPDATE (18/04/26): A post-mortem examination conducted at the Forensic Science Centre on Friday (17th April, 2026) revealed that Frederick Aaron Stevenson died from blunt force trauma to the head, with investigators alleging he was killed with a sledgehammer before his body was dumped in a forested area off Esmeralda Road, Las Lomas. UPDATE (24/04/26): The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago announced this morning (Friday 24th April, 2026) that the relocation of domestic operations, scheduled to begin from today, has been postponed until further notice. According to the Authority, “The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints will not take effect at this time. We appreciate the continued co-operation of our stakeholders and the public as preparations continue.” All domestic passengers will therefore continue to be processed through the Domestic Departures area on the ground floor of the Piarco International Airport, with standard check-in and security procedures remaining in place.
