Driver Killed On Northbound Highway After Out-of-Control Pickup Crosses Median, Crashes Into His Car
UPDATE 4: While there have been several conflicting reports as to what led the black Mitsubishi Sportero pickup to cross the median of the Highway, including theories that the driver swerved to avoid hitting a pedestrian on the roadway, the driver suffered a heart attack or even that a fight occurred in the cabin between the driver and his female passenger — each pulling the steering wheel in opposite directions — investigators have not released an official cause for the deadly crash.
UPDATE 3: In a Facebook post this morning (Sunday 29th March, 2026), Road Safety NGO Arrive Alive extended condolences to Michael King’s family and called for focus from drivers:
“Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michael King. This is another preventable and fatal crash which took the life of one, and seriously injured three persons. We wish the three persons injured, full recoveries.
We appeal to all drivers to focus on your driving and on the roads, distraction and speed both contribute to these serious collisions. Forensic crash investigation required in T&T.
So does the lack of median barriers contribute to cross-over collisions.”
The group called on the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to “please install median barriers along this Highway.”
UPDATE 2: According to a business website linked to Michael King’s Facebook profile, both he and his wife, Severina Francois, are executive members of a maintenance company based in Arouca. The website described him as a “seasoned sales and service professional” who leads its growth strategy, client relations, and strategic direction.
UPDATE: Severina Francois, the wife of deceased driver, Michael King, is reportedly being treated for brain injuries at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope. Police were told she remains coherent at this time.

A man is dead and several others injured following a horrific road traffic accident along the Northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, near the Munroe Road Flyover, this afternoon (Sunday 29th March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as businessman, Michael King, of Success Village, Laventille.
The accident occurred some time after 4:00 PM, involving two (2) vehicles — a black Mitsubishi Sportero pickup (TDK 7752) driven by 22-year-old Kevin Singh of Bamboo No. 3, Valsayn, and accompanied by a 24-year-old woman, Arvita Dookhan — and a black Kia Cerato (PDZ 5361) driven by Michael King and accompanied by his wife, Severina Farrah Francois of Lopinot Road, Lopinot (both pictured above).
According to dash-cam footage of the crash, the driver of the black pickup (Singh), heading Southbound, was first seen on the far-right (fast lane), then moved to far-left (slow lane), then suddenly lost control, crossed both lanes on the right — narrowly missing two (2) vehicles — crossed the median of the Highway and crashed into the black Cerato, driven by King, heading Northbound on the fast lane.
King appeared to have died instantly upon impact, while his wife, Francois, was critically injured.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damages.
Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene.
Fire Officers utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the lifeless body of King from the mangled sedan.
All injured persons were taken to Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Their conditions are said to be critical at this time.
The crash caused traffic gridlock that lasted for hours.
