33 Persons Detained In Mayaro — Ammunition And Narcotics Seized
An anti-crime operation conducted in the Mayaro district resulted in the detention of thirty-three (33) persons and the seizure of ammunition and narcotics on Saturday morning (23rd May, 2026).
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), six (6) premises were searched during the operation, between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM, resulting in the detention of thirty (30) undocumented Venezuelan nationals, comprising twenty-one (21) females and nine (9) males.
Additionally, three (3) persons were arrested for separate offences; a 37-year-old man of Guayaguayare was arrested for possession of ammunition, after Officers allegedly found four (4) rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Enquiries are also continuing into outstanding reports of larceny of cables, larceny of motor vehicle, and robbery with violence. A 30-year-old man of Guayaguayare Village, Mayaro, was arrested for possession of ammunition, after Officers allegedly found four (4) rounds of 5.56 ammunition. A 22-year-old man of Grand Lagoon Village, Mayaro, was arrested for trafficking in cannabis, after Officers allegedly seized 139 grammes of cannabis and TT $20 in cash as evidence.
The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr. Supt. Etienne and directly supervised by Ag. ASP Lee Tang, Ag. Insp. Mahabir, Ag. Insp. Ramdeen, and Sgt. Mohammed, with support from Officers attached to EDGIU, EDTF, Sangre Grande CID, Valencia CID, Special Branch, IATF, Special Forces, Rio Claro CID, the TTPS Canine Unit, Mayaro Police Station, and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment (TTR).
Investigations are ongoing.
