Girlfriend of Joshua Samaroo Charged With Killing Him In Shocking Twist

UPDATE (28/05/26): Kaia Sealy has now been slapped with four (4) additional firearm-related offences following a virtual Court hearing on Tuesday (26th May, 2026) before a High Court Master. The new charges include possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life, and discharging a firearm within forty (40) metres of a public place. She was already charged with manslaughter and multiple counts of shooting at Police Officers.

Police said that while warrants have been issued for some of the new offences, they have not yet been executed as Sealy remains outside of Trinidad and Tobago. She is currently in the United States undergoing medical treatment following the Police-involved shooting incident.

Authorities are expected to rely on the Central Authority, under the Ministry of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs, in order to secure Sealy’s return to Trinidad and Tobago to face the growing list of charges against her.

Another hearing in the matter is expected to take place on Monday (1st June, 2026).

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has provided an update in relation to the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Joshua Samaroo, which occurred on 20th January, 2026, at the corner of College Road and Bassie Street Extension, St. Augustine. 

Widely circulated CCTV footage at the time appeared to show Samaroo placing his hands up in surrender while in the driver’s seat of his crashed vehicle, before Police Officers allegedly opened fire, killing Samaroo and critically wounding his girlfriend, 24-year-old Kaia Sealy, who was in the front passenger seat. However, the investigation into the alleged Police-involved killing has since taken a drastic turn — with the TTPS now laying charges against Sealy for Samaroo’s murder — indicating that she used a firearm and opened fire on the Police Officers, striking and killing Samaroo in the process.

In a Media Release a short while ago this afternoon (Thursday 21st May, 2026), the TTPS said, “A comprehensive and thorough investigation was conducted, and a detailed file was subsequently submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Following consultation, the DPP has advised that criminal charges be laid in connection with the events of January 20th, 2026.”

Acting on the advice of the DPP, investigators conducted further enquiries and obtained warrants for the arrest of Kaia Sealy of Bamboo Settlement No. 1, Valsayn, for the following offences:

  • Three (3) counts of shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at the Police, contrary to Section 12 of the Offences Against the Person Act, Chapter 11:08, in relation to the incident which occurred on January 20th, 2026, at the corner of College Road and Bassie Street Extension, St. Augustine.

Additionally, a warrant has been issued for the offence of:

  • Manslaughter, contrary to common law, in that on January 20th, 2026, at the corner of College Road and Bassie Street Extension, St. Augustine, Kaia Sealy unlawfully killed Joshua Samaroo, in addition to other related charges.

At this time, the TTPS notes that warrants have not yet been executed. “Further updates will be provided as developments occur.”

The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) also wishes to clarify that at no time during today’s media briefing did Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, state that Police Officers were to be charged in connection with the matter. The Commissioner indicated only that investigators were directed, following consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), to proceed with a series of criminal charges arising out of the events of January 20th, 2026.”

In a separate Media Release issued this morning (Thursday 21st May, 2026), the TTPS confirmed that investigators probing the Police-involved shooting death of Samaroo had received further direction following consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Commissioner Guevarro, speaking during a media briefing today, stated that after review of the investigative file and consultation with the DPP, investigators were directed to proceed with a series of criminal charges arising out of the events which unfolded on 20th January, 2026.

The Commissioner, however, emphasized during the briefing that at this stage, no individual was currently in custody or formally charged in connection with the matter. As a result, further details regarding the number or nature of the charges were not disclosed at the time.

The Commissioner further indicated that investigators have since been directed accordingly and that he was presently awaiting additional feedback before providing any further update on the matter.

The TTPS reiterated its commitment to “due process, transparency, and professionalism as the matter continues under active investigation.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (19th May, 2026), the TTPS confirmed that, in relation to the investigation into the shooting of Samaroo, a thorough investigation had been conducted. According to the TTPS on Tuesday, “As part of the investigative process, several exhibits were submitted to the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain for analysis. Investigators were awaiting the forensic report, which was received today, Tuesday 19th May, 2026. The investigating officers will now approach the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP], where the file will be reviewed and further guidance provided on the way forward.”

The TTPS added that it “remains committed to ensuring that this matter is handled thoroughly, professionally, and in accordance with due process. The public will be updated on the outcome of this investigation in a timely manner.”

TWO (2) Suspects Arrested Following Armed Robbery At Chaguanas Mini-Mart

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a man and a woman were arrested and a firearm recovered, following a co-ordinated Police response to an armed robbery at a mini-mart in Chaguanas this afternoon (Friday 17th July, 2026). At approximately 12:55 PM, Officers of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) responded to a report of a robbery with aggravation at a mini-mart, located along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas. Venezuelan Woman Stabbed To Death By Boyfriend During Confrontation At Chaguanas Home

UPDATE (12/07/26): Police have launched a manhunt for the 23-year-old boyfriend of Kelimar Del Jesus Duran Morillo, following her fatal stabbing early Saturday morning. The incident unfolded just hours after Morillo and her on-and-off boyfriend of three (3) years attended his birthday celebration at his parents’ home in Endeavour, Chaguanas. Man Dies In Head-On Collision Along Rivulet Road, Couva; Another Driver Hospitalized

A man is dead and another injured following a head-on collision along Rivulet Road in Couva on Friday night (31st July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Avinash, also known as “Chucky Avi,” of Dow Village. According to reports, a white Toyota Hilux (TDW 4431) was travelling East along Rivulet Road, when a grey Nissan Frontier (TCK 8116), heading West, allegedly crossed over into the opposite lane, resulting in a violent head-on collision with the Hilux, around 9:30 PM. A man is dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident in Siparia on Thursday (16th July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Akeil Packet, also known as “Shaka.” He was killed just weeks after his brother was also murdered in Siparia .
