64-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Arima Home — Wife, Daughter Wounded; 16 Spent Shells Found
A man is dead and his wife and daughter wounded following a violent home invasion in Arima late last night (Wednesday 1st July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 64-year-old Richard Maloney of Demerara Road, Arima. His teenage son was killed in a similar attack at the same home in 2022.
According to reports, the family heard knocking at their back door and voices shouting, “Police, open up,” around 11:00 PM on Wednesday night. Believing the men were legitimate Police Officers, Maloney opened the door.
However, two (2) masked gunmen immediately forced their way into the house and opened fire, hitting Maloney, his wife, Deidra, and their 15-year-old daughter, before fleeing.
Maloney sustained multiple gunshot wounds and collapsed near the back door.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the residence.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) later pronounced Maloney dead at the scene.
His wife and teenage daughter were each shot in the left leg. Both were treated by Emergency Health Services personnel before being taken to the Arima Hospital for further medical treatment.
Crime scene investigators recovered sixteen (16) spent 9mm shell casings and two (2) live rounds of ammunition.
On 14th April, 2022, Maloney‘s 19-year-old son, Josiah Maloney, was shot and killed after two (2) gunmen entered the family’s home in Arima and opened fire. A female relative was also wounded in that attack.
Just over a month later, on 25th May, 2022, 19-year-old Ronaldo Assing was charged with Josiah Maloney’s murder, as well as firearm, ammunition and shooting-related offences, following advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Police have not indicated whether Wednesday night’s fatal shooting is connected to the 2022 murder of Josiah Maloney.
Investigations are continuing.
More on this as it becomes available.
