28-Year-Old Female Veterinarian Dies After Being Found Unresponsive At El Socorro Home — Police Investigating

A young but well-respected Veterinarian has died after she was found unresponsive at her home in El Socorro last week, on Wednesday 29th July, 2026. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Dr. Amanda Zara Ali. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.

According to reports, Dr. Ali was found lying motionless on a bed inside her home by her boyfriend, shortly after 6:00 PM on Wednesday, after returning to the residence from work that day.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded. Investigators reportedly found an empty bottle of prescription medication at the scene.

Dr. Ali was conveyed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, where she was officially pronounced dead, around 7:00 PM.

It was reported to Police that she had been receiving medical treatment prior to her death.

Detectives do not suspect foul play at this stage of their investigations.

Following news of Dr. Ali’s death, President of The Trinidad and Tobago Veterinary Association (TTVA), Dr. Shivana Beharry, issued the following statement via Facebook on Friday 31st July, 2026.

“Dear Colleagues,

It is with deep sadness that I share the news that our colleague, Dr. Amanda Ali, has passed away.

We have been advised that her funeral will be held today [Friday] at 5:00 p.m. at the Charlieville Masjid. At this time, I am unable to confirm whether the service is public or private.

On behalf of the Executive and the wider Trinidad and Tobago Veterinary Association (TTVA), we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, classmates, clients, and all those whose lives she touched. We know this loss will be felt by many across our profession.

During this difficult time, we encourage everyone to support one another. If you or someone you know is struggling with this loss and would like assistance in accessing support resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to the TTVA. We are here to help connect members of our veterinary family with the appropriate support.

Today, we pause to honour the life of a colleague and stand together as a profession in sympathy and remembrance.

Please keep Dr. Amanda Ali’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding Dr. Ali’s death, as the veterinarian community has been left in mourning.

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has responded to several acts of violence which were recorded and shared across social media over the long Independence Day weekend. 22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. TWO (2) Prison Officers And Inmate At Golden Grove Charged With Conspiracy Offences

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), two (2) Prison Officers attached to the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, and an inmate on remand for murder, were expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (17th September, 2026), charged with multiple offences, arising out of an attempt to smuggle illegal contraband into the prison in August 2026. The TTPS said on 24th August, 2026, a female Prison Officer (PO) was searched by Officers at the Golden Grove Prison, after she attempted to enter the premises with quantities of cannabis, cigarettes and other contraband items. She was later handed over to members of the DCP Operations Team, who commenced a 3-week long, intense investigation.
