TWO (2) Men Ambushed, Shot Dead Minutes Apart In Arima — Police Investigating

EDITOR’S NOTE: While initial reports stated that this was a double murder, occurring during the same incident, subsequent information has revealed that both men were killed separately. The headline and body of this article have been updated with new details.

Reports state that (2) men are dead following separate brutal shooting incidents in Arima early this morning (Sunday 9th August, 2026). The deceased have been identified as Ishmael Vincent, also known as “Yam-Yam,” of Calvary Hill, Arima, and Reon Shelby Thomas, also known as “Rambo,” of LP #48 By-Pass Road, Arima.

In the first incident, Vincent (“Yam-Yam”) was sitting in the front passenger seat of a maroon Nissan Y12 Wingroad (PDE 7110), which was travelling North along Woodford Street. As the vehicle passed approximately 200 metres beyond the Longden Street intersection, its path was blocked by a silver Nissan B15, around 3:50 AM. In an action movie-like sequence, the suspects’ car pulled up with a gunman already hanging out of the front passenger-side window, as he opened fire on the Wingroad — leading the driver to immediately jump out, with the vehicle still in motion. He ran South along Woodford Street, while the Wingroad rolled backwards and collided with a utility pole.

Meanwhile, the gunman in the Nissan B15 hopped out and fell to the ground, where he used the opportunity to reload his weapon, before standing up and running towards the crashed Wingroad.

Vincent also exited the Wingroad and ran South before turning West onto Longden Street. However, he was pursued by the gunmen from the Nissan B15 and shot several times. Vincent was conveyed to the Arima Health Facility, where he was pronounced dead at 4:49 AM.

Crime scene investigators recovered eighteen (18) spent 9mm casings.

The second killing, involving Thomas (“Yam-Yam”), occurred approximately twenty-five (25) minutes later.

According to reports, Thomas was walking South along Prince Street, Calvary Hill, with his girlfriend, around 4:15 AM. Upon reaching the vicinity of the Holy Cross Chapel, a vehicle travelling North along Prince Street stopped alongside them.

A passenger alighted from the vehicle and opened fire in their direction. Thomas was struck and collapsed on the roadway.

The gunman then re-entered the vehicle, which continued North along Prince Street.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. However, Thomas showed no signs of life.

A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced him dead and ordered the body removed, pending an autopsy.

Crime scene investigators recovered fifteen (15) spent 9mm casings.

This latest incidents brings the total to five (5) murdered within less than forty-eight (48) hours. Three (3) other persons were killed at Duncan Street, Port-of-Spain, Wallerfield, Arima, and Textile Hill, Belmont.

Investigations are continuing.

A man was arrested and a vehicle recovered following a report of robbery with violence in Caroni on Monday afternoon (10th August, 2026). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 2:05 PM, the victim, a 53-year-old proprietor, was in her husband’s vehicle at the side of the roadway in front of her home, located along Caroni South Bank Road, Caroni, when two (2) men alighted from a red Hyundai vehicle. Former Payroll Officer Facing 61 Fraud Charges For Allegedly Diverting Over $166,000 To Her Bank Account

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a former employee at a security consulting company has been charged with more than sixty (60) offences arising from an alleged case of fraud. In a Media Release today (Friday 14th August, 2026), the TTPS said the suspect, identified as Brenda Omadath, was employed as a Payroll Officer at the company. During a financial audit, it was revealed that during the period Thursday 9th January, 2025 to Tuesday 10th March, 2026, Omadath, while employed at the company, allegedly falsified payment sheets to deceive her employers and subsequently transferred sums totalling $166,461.05 to her account at a local financial institution. Man Dies In Head-On Collision Along Rivulet Road, Couva; Another Driver Hospitalized

A man is dead and another injured following a head-on collision along Rivulet Road in Couva on Friday night (31st July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Avinash, also known as “Chucky Avi,” of Dow Village. According to reports, a white Toyota Hilux (TDW 4431) was travelling East along Rivulet Road, when a grey Nissan Frontier (TCK 8116), heading West, allegedly crossed over into the opposite lane, resulting in a violent head-on collision with the Hilux, around 9:30 PM. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Both drivers sustained injuries and were conveyed to the Couva Health Facility for emergency medical treatment. National Hurricane Center Following Potential Development of TWO (2) Systems In Tropical Atlantic

UPDATE (10/08/26): In its first official statement , the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) said it has been monitoring an active Tropical Wave in the Central Tropical Atlantic, which is expected to affect the Southern Windward Islands from Thursday (13th August, 2026) of this week. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said it is now following the potential development of two (2) systems in the Tropical Atlantic during the upcoming week. A Chaguanas man and his 18-year-old girlfriend have appeared before a Master of the High Court, charged with the murder of 25-year-old Shayanna Ruiz , which occurred on 29th July, 2026, in the Central Division. UPDATE (17/08/26): The second deceased man has been identified as Clint Jordan. Relatives of both Nigel Mohammed and Clint Jordan have disputed several aspects of what transpired at the property. They allege that Police Officers removed several Wi-Fi security cameras at the house and that neither man shot at the Police.
