Teen Cop-Killer ‘H-Man’ Shot Dead By Officers At Hideout House In Matura

A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident at a residence in Matura on Tuesday night (11th August, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Hassan Johnson, also known as “H-Man,” of Second Street, Printeryville, Arima. He was wanted in connection with the recent murder of 48-year-old No. 17062 Police Constable Romell Kerry Douglas.

According to reports, Officers from the Eastern Division received information on Tuesday regarding a suspicious man at Mora Trace, Matura, and responded to the location. Upon arrival, however, the man saw the Officers and made his escape by running into a forested area.

Police received further information around 11:00 PM on Tuesday night that Johnson was staying at a 2-bedroom concrete house, located at 7¾ Mile Mark, Main Road, Mora Trace. Officers responded and immediately surrounded the property. They announced their presence and ordered the suspect to surrender. However, Police said Johnson refused and allegedly shot at the Officers, prompting them to return fire in his direction.

Johnson was shot several times about the body and conveyed to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, around 11:55 PM.

A woman, said to be Johnson’s girlfriend, and a 19-year-old man, who were allegedly harbouring Johnson at the house since the killing of PC Douglas, were detained and are assisting Police with their investigation. They were not injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Police reportedly recovered a loaded Glock-26 semi-automatic pistol at the scene.

Residents of Mora Trace have since raised concerns about unfamiliar people reportedly staying in makeshift structures in the area.

PC Douglas was shot dead on 28th July, 2026 along South Bank Road, near Hydraulic Trace, Kelly Village, Caroni. Gunmen approached and confronted Douglas while he was sitting in his car. He managed to shoot one of the men before being shot himself. The injured suspect, identified as 19-year-old Adetole Ammon of Printeryville, Arima, was taken to the Arima Hospital, where he later died.

Police were said to be searching for two (2) remaining suspects following the incident.

PC Douglas enlisted as an Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) in January 2006. His career took him through several divisions within the service, including Western, North Eastern, and Tobago Division. The TTPS said Officer Douglas “will be remembered for his exemplary service as evidenced by commendations he received for his dedication to duty in 2013 and devotion to duty in 2010 and 2011.”

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death and the murder of PC Douglas.
