Law Association RESPONDS To Brutal Murder of Randall Hector — Calls For Security For All Prosecutors

The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) said it “roundly condemns and deplores the brutal murder of its member, Mr. Randall Hector. Mr. Hector was a well-respected member of the legal profession and the national community.”

According to reports, Hector, 43, had attended an Old Year's Night service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Tuesday (31st December, 2024) and was walking towards his car, along Stanmore Avenue, around 7:30 PM, when two (2) vehicles, a black SUV and a Nissan B15, pulled alongside him. Occupants of the vehicles opened fire, hitting Hector several times about the body, and then sped off.

Hector collapsed, and was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH) for emergency medical treatment. However, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
In a Media Release on Thursday (2nd January, 2025), the LATT said Mr. Hector was admitted to practise in Trinidad and Tobago in 2006. “Throughout his career, he has played an integral part in the administration of the criminal justice system and was a prosecutor in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The LATT joins with Mr. Hector's family, friends and colleagues in mourning his death and calls upon the Police to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.” 

The LATT added, “The alarming level of violent crime in Trinidad and Tobago, to which our citizens have been subjected for many years now, is cause for very serious concern. The murder toll reached an all-time high in 2024. Indeed, it was the threat of a further escalation in gang-related violence that forced the Executive to declare a State of Emergency in accordance with Part Ill of the Constitution, on the basis: ‘that action has been taken, or is immediately threatened, by any person, of such a nature and on so extensive a scale, as to be likely to endanger the public safety or to deprive the community or any substantial portion of the community of supplies or services essential to life.’ Mr. Hector's brutal murder was perpetrated 1 day after the declaration of a State of Emergency.” 

The LATT said it is of the view that “given the role that Mr. Hector played in the administration of criminal justice in Trinidad and Tobago, there is an urgent need for the implementation of security measures for all prosecutors and judicial officers in the criminal justice system.” 

The Media Release concluded by saying, “The objectives of the State of Emergency cannot be realized without the fearless efforts of the legal and judicial officers who are engaged in the criminal prosecution of violent offenders.” ​

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has responded to several acts of violence which were recorded and shared across social media over the long Independence Day weekend. 22-Year-Old Man Shot Dead In Morvant — Face Disfigured In Hail of Bullets

A man is dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant early this morning (Tuesday 8th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, aka “Papa,”of Redwood Street, Morvant. His face was said to have been disfigured in a hail of bullets from a high-powered weapon. According to reports, Hinkson was ambushed and shot near Second Caledonia Road, in the vicinity of Juman, during the early morning hours. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers found Hinkson lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, including severe injuries to his face, hands and legs. A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Hinkson dead at the scene. Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 19-Year-Old Driver Dies In Cocorite Crash — Passenger Hospitalized

A man is dead and another listed in serious condition at Hospital following a horrific road traffic accident in Cocorite on Wednesday night (9th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Binyameen Rahaman of Warren Road, Cunupia. According to reports, Rahaman was driving a white Nissan AD wagon, heading West along the Western Main Road with a passenger later identified as 21-year-old Faraaz Hosein of Hosein Drive, St. Lucien Road, Diego Martin. Missing Elderly Man Found Dead Under Suitcases At House In Curepe — Police Investigating

The body of a missing pensioner was found under large suitcases at a house in Curepe on Monday afternoon (7th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Chunilal Bandoo of Mohammed Lane, Mc Inroy Street, Curepe. He was the father of a daughter, who resides in the United States. A man wanted for extortion is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Carapichaima early Thursday morning (10th September, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Riyad Sean Ali of Orangefield Settlement, Carapichaima. His elderly mother and brother were reportedly detained and firearms seized at the scene. BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time. According to the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT), led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, five (5) of its members were driving along Broadway, San Fernando, when they detected a foul stench, around 9:35 AM. In a Media Release on Wednesday (9th September, 2026), the TTPS said 32-year-old Valani Hema Baboolal and 4-year-old Ajay Lutchmansingh, of Chaguanas, were last seen on 24th August, 2026, and were reported missing at the Chaguanas Police Station on Tuesday (8th September, 2026). TWO (2) Prison Officers And Inmate At Golden Grove Charged With Conspiracy Offences

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), two (2) Prison Officers attached to the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, and an inmate on remand for murder, were expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (17th September, 2026), charged with multiple offences, arising out of an attempt to smuggle illegal contraband into the prison in August 2026. The TTPS said on 24th August, 2026, a female Prison Officer (PO) was searched by Officers at the Golden Grove Prison, after she attempted to enter the premises with quantities of cannabis, cigarettes and other contraband items. She was later handed over to members of the DCP Operations Team, who commenced a 3-week long, intense investigation.
