Breaking: Stepfather Reportedly Confesses To Murder of 2-Year-Old Angelo Tobias; Search On For Body

UPDATE 6: The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that murder charges be laid against 24-year-old Shannon Miller, the stepfather of missing 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza, while the child’s mother, Khalifa Tobias, has been released without charge as investigations continue.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), an audience was held with a Specialist Advisor attached to the Office of the DPP to review the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance. Following a thorough review of the evidence gathered, legal advice was provided today (Saturday 23rd May, 2026) that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges. As a result, Miller, of Cambridge Trace, Goodwood, has been formally charged with the offence of murder. The DPP also advised that Angelo’s mother be released from Police custody without charge.

The TTPS said it “reaffirms its unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring that all investigations are conducted with the highest standards of professionalism, diligence, and integrity. Further updates will be provided as the matter progresses.”

The development comes nearly two (2) weeks after little Angelo’s disappearance from Miller’s home at Cambridge Trace, Goodwood, Tobago, which triggered an island-wide search operation and continuing national outrage.

UPDATE 5: The stepfather and mother of missing 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza remain in Police custody as of today (Friday 22nd May, 2026), as investigations continue into the child’s suspected murder, while five (5) other people previously detained have been released after thorough questioning.

Reports state that Shannon Miller and Khalifa Tobias are still being questioned by homicide investigators, who are now pursuing several leads, including the possibility that the toddler may have been killed the day before he was reported missing.

The case has triggered widespread public anger and emotional reactions across Trinidad and Tobago, with many citizens demanding justice for the missing child.

UPDATE 4: Captain Vallence Rambharat of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT) has announced that the group of hunters have left Tobago after eight (8) exhausting days in search of missing 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza. Rambharat said his members were mentally and physically drained and needed to reconnect with their families.

UPDATE 3: Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, has criticized the release of CCTV footage on Friday 15th May, 2026, which showed Khalifa Tobias and Shannon Miller walking near the Cambridge Trace junction, around the same time the couple alleged they were at home with 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza, as he was playing with a toy truck, shortly before he disappeared — contradicting their initial claims. 

Speaking at a Press Conference at the Police Administration Building today (Thursday 21st May, 2026), the Commissioner described the publication of the video as “sensationalism,” as opposed to real journalism, as growing questions emerge over the handling of the investigation into the missing toddler. While he did not directly name the media outlet that released the CCTV footage, his remarks were widely understood to be aimed at Crime Watch and its host, Ian Alleyne.

Commissioner Guevarro defended the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s early actions, stating that Officers could not have immediately arrested the child’s mother and stepfather solely on the basis of a missing person report.

He said the matter was handled as a standard missing persons investigation and insisted that Officers responded promptly and appropriately, expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the Police in the early stages.

UPDATE 2: Exclusive video footage by Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne captured Khalifa Tobias, the mother of 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza, being escorted by Police Officers back to the family’s home at Cambridge Trace, Goodwood, Tobago, shortly after 4:00 PM this afternoon (Wednesday 20th May, 2026), as investigators intensified their probe into the child’s death.

Several Police vehicles were seen entering the area, including an unmarked black Toyota Rav4, which is believed to have transported Khalifa under heavy Police supervision.

Reports state that the child’s mother, dressed in a white crime scene suit and wearing white gloves, was removed from the vehicle and escorted into the house by investigators and legal officials attached to the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). Crime scene investigators then processed the home while Khalifa reportedly walked Officers through the house, explaining events surrounding the tragic death of little Angelo.

The scene was photographed, documented and examined extensively before Khalifa was escorted back into the waiting vehicle and removed from the area.

UPDATE: Reports state that Shannon Miller allegedly confessed to strangling his stepson, 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza, before disposing of his body in the sea near the family’s home in Goodwood, Tobago. It is further alleged that Miller may have used a cable to climb down a precipice to gain direct access to the sea. 

A cousin who claimed he saw “small man” Angelo walking towards the sea — is believed to have knowledge surrounding the circumstances of the child’s disappearance and death.

Miller was reportedly taken to the Scarborough General Hospital shortly after his confession. He complained of feeling unwell while in Police custody and was escorted to the Hospital for medical treatment.

Investigators are continuing co-ordinated searches and are expected to revisit several locations in Tobago as efforts intensify to recover the toddler’s body.

There has been a major breakthrough in the disappearance of 2-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza, with Police confirming this morning (Wednesday 20th May, 2026) that a male relative, identified as the child’s stepfather, Shannon Miller, has confessed to his murder. Baby Angelo was reported missing since around 7:30 PM on Monday 11th May, 2026.

According to reports, Miller was taken briefly by Police Officers this morning to Cambridge Trace, Goodwood, before being whisked away. Police later cordoned off access to the family’s seaside home.

Speaking with Guardian Media, Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk confirmed that a number of persons of interest who were previously detained were released today, but key suspects remain in custody at this time.

Miller is expected to accompany Officers to locations in Tobago, where investigators believe the child’s body may have been discarded after he was killed.



The tragic breakthrough comes days after intense searches were conducted across several areas of the island, including Pig Farm Road, where Miller reportedly owns a cassava field, Mt. St. George dump and Dam Road, as Police, emergency responders and volunteer search teams desperately searched for the missing child.

The Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT), led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, was also actively involved in the operation, responding to numerous public tips and conducting difficult searches in heavily forested areas and precipices. 

Police are expected to continue extensive searches today (Wednesday 20th May, 2026) as investigators attempt to recover the toddler’s body and determine the full circumstances surrounding his death.

TWO (2) Suspects Arrested Following Armed Robbery At Chaguanas Mini-Mart

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a man and a woman were arrested and a firearm recovered, following a co-ordinated Police response to an armed robbery at a mini-mart in Chaguanas this afternoon (Friday 17th July, 2026). At approximately 12:55 PM, Officers of the Central Division Task Force (Area North) responded to a report of a robbery with aggravation at a mini-mart, located along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas. UPDATE (06/07/26): Shahnaaz Ali has told Police that she was kidnapped, drugged and tortured before being left abandoned near a beach in Mayaro. Venezuelan Woman Stabbed To Death By Boyfriend During Confrontation At Chaguanas Home

UPDATE (12/07/26): Police have launched a manhunt for the 23-year-old boyfriend of Kelimar Del Jesus Duran Morillo, following her fatal stabbing early Saturday morning. 42-Year-Old Man Killed When Panel Van Crashes Into Truck Along Caparo Valley Brasso Road

A man is dead following a road traffic accident along the Caparo Valley Brasso Road this morning (Saturday 4th July, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Jason Ramnanan of Caparo.
