Coast Guard Intercepts Pirogue With Marijuana Valued At Over TT $25 Million; 3 Venezuelans Held
The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) is confirming that during the early hours of Monday (28th September, 2026), a pirogue bound for Trinidad was intercepted in the Gulf of Paria.
According to the Coast Guard, the vessel had three (3) foreign nationals onboard, later identified as Venezuelan nationals, with a quantity of compressed, plant-like material contained in a total of 411 sealed packages. The packages have since been confirmed as marijuana following analysis by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Special Investigations Unit (TTPS SIU). The marijuana weighed a total of 231.42 Kg with an estimated street value of TT $25,456,200. (Click/Tap Image To Enlarge) The vessel, crew, and narcotics were brought to Staubles Bay and handed over to the relevant authorities, and are being processed in accordance with established evidential procedures. The matter remains with the relevant law enforcement authorities as investigations continue. The TTCG said it “remains committed to protecting the nation’s maritime space and disrupting the movement of illicit narcotics through our waters.” More on this as it becomes available.
