The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of St. James/Cocorite, Barataria, Sangre Grande and Chaguanas on Thursday (25th June, 2026). The Ministry of Education is conducting a Means Test to determine eligibility for the School Supplies and Book Grant, to support financially disadvantaged students at both the Primary and Secondary levels. UPDATE (27/06/26): At least two (2) suspects have been arrested by Police in connection with this daring attempted robbery, including the one dubbed “Batman” due to his attire . The ATM vault, valued at $238,000, was found lying in the parking area near the roadway after the suspects fled the scene. A check of the vault revealed that it contained $641,000 in cash. The large opening in the wall of the building is said to have caused approximately $185,000 in damage. Two (2) FCB signs were also destroyed by the backhoe, with damage estimated at $40,000. A prominent businessman and his wife from Westmoorings are now in Police custody after Officers executed search warrants at two (2) properties early this morning (Wednesday 24th June, 2026). The couple is said to be businessman Dominic Hadeed, the Executive Chairman of Blue Waters Products Limited, and his wife, Genevieve Hadeed. Reports state that plain-clothes Officers from a specialist unit arrived at the couple’s home in Westmoorings, around 5:00 AM, following which they executed a search warrant and seized several electronic devices, including laptops and cellphones belonging to the occupants. Investigators then drove Hadeed to his business in Trincity, to conduct additional searches as part of ongoing enquiries. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is assuring the public that the national electricity grid remains stable following a significant voltage “dip” experienced across parts of the country at approximately 9:15 PM last night (Tuesday 23rd June, 2026). According to the Commission, the “dip” occurred when, during adverse lightning activity in Central Trinidad, two (2) circuits between the Brechin Castle and Debe 132 kV Substations tripped and were automatically re-closed by the built-in protection system. There was no interruption to the supply of residential customers. T&TEC said it “remains committed to delivering a reliable and secure electricity supply and continues to actively monitor the grid. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers as a result of this event.” More on this as it becomes available.

The father of Joshua Samaroo, who was killed during a controversial Police-involved shooting incident earlier this year, has been detained under the State of Emergency Regulations after allegedly making a statement on live radio that investigators say was prejudicial to public safety. Joshua was allegedly shot and killed by Police in St. Augustine on 20th January, 2026, following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. The shooting left his girlfriend, Kaia Sealy , critically injured. CCTV footage appeared to show Joshua seated inside the vehicle with his hands raised before Officers opened fire. A man charged with attempted murder and possession of ammunition has been granted bail following his appearance before the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday (22nd June, 2026). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the accused, Ryan Sambucharan, was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with surety or $20,000 cash alternative for the offence of attempted murder, and $100,000 with surety or $10,000 cash alternative for the offence of possession of ammunition. He was also ordered to comply with strict bail conditions, including residing at Lengua Village, Lucy Trace, Barrackpore, reporting to the Princes Town Police Station once per month between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and having no direct or indirect contact with the complainant. He is further required to remain at least 500 metres away from the victim at all times. A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in San Juan on Monday evening (22nd June, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Abraham Hackette, who was mentally ill and said to be homeless, but had a last known address at Farroe Terrace, San Juan. He was allegedly killed by Police after attacking and stabbing an Officer. According to reports, Police Constable David Noel and other Officers of the San Juan Police Station responded to a call of domestic disturbance at the corners of Concord and Saddle Road, San Juan, around 6:40 PM. Residents at the location were being harassed by the outpatients of the St. Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital and called the Police. When the Officers arrived, they met Hackette who was armed with a knife. Police said he attacked the Officers and stabbed PC Noel in the left and upper right arms.
