The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is informing customers that the Seven Seas Water (SSW)-owned and operated Point Fortin Desalination Plant, has returned to full production. This follows the cutback earlier today (Thursday 13th February, 2025) to 4.38 million gallons per day, from the usual 5.5 million gallons per day, due to high levels of algae bloom at the intake of the facility. WASA said it “acknowledges the inconvenience that some customers in the Point Fortin/La Brea area may have experienced and sincerely appreciates their patience during this period. A man is dead and another wounded following a shooting incident in Barataria this afternoon (Thursday 13th February, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Elijah Sambury. According to reports, Sambury and another man were at the tent at a car wash on Seventh Avenue, when a black Nissan Tiida hatchback drove up to them, around 2:15 PM. Gunmen then opened fire with automatic weapons, hitting Sambury and the other man. Sambury was shot several times about the body and died instantly. The second man was conveyed to Hospital for emergency medical treatment by passers-by.     Police were notified and Officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force and the Barataria CID responded to the scene, along with crime scene investigators. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that  planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Curepe, Arima, Sangre Grande and Blanchisseuse on Thursday (13th February, 2025).  This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said it acted swiftly in response to a disturbing video circulating on social media, which allegedly depicted a man threatening a child while holding a knife. In a Media Release today (Wednesday 12th February, 2025), the TTPS said following an intensive investigation, Officers of the Special Victims Department arrested a 43-year-old man from Marac Village, Moruga. The suspect is currently in Police custody as inquiries continue. He has been  identified as Curvon Noel, who   reportedly went on a tirade on Monday night (10th February, 2025) following an altercation he had with a female relative.     Additionally, three (3) male children, ages five (5), seven (7), and nine (9), have been placed in the care of the Children’s Authority, ensuring their safety and well-being. UPDATE (15/02/25):   TEMA said both fishermen have been found alive and were brought to shore a short while ago this morning (Saturday 15th February, 2025). No further details are available at this time. Two (2) fishermen have been reported missing in Tobago after failing to return from a fishing trip on Tuesday (11th February, 2025). The missing men have been identified as 49-year-old Junior Thom of Bon Accord and 62-year-old Albert James of Crown Point. According to reports, the men departed Pigeon Point Fish Port around 6:00 AM on Tuesday morning, aboard a white and blue open-top fiberglass pirogue with registration TFT 1528 - XENA (interior is sky blue). The odd shower may become moderate to heavy and be accompanied by gusty winds. Tonight will be cool and breezy with the odd overnight shower. A  High Winds Alert (Yellow Level)  is in effect until Monday 17th February, 2025. The Met Office notes that there is a moderate concentration of Saharan Dust in the atmosphere. Sensitive persons are advised to exercise caution. The forecast maximum temperature today will be 31°C at Piarco in Trinidad and 30°C at Crown Point in Tobago. The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is informing customers that the  Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Desalcott) will be conducting emergency electrical repair works at their facility from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM today ( Wednesday 12th February 2025).  WASA notes that  during this period,  water delivery from Desalcott to the Authority will be reduced to 20 - 24 million gallons per day, down from the usual 40 million gallons per day. The Desalination Plant, which is owned and operated by Desalcott, supplies water to the Point Lisas Industrial Estate and augments supply to  several areas in Central and South-West Trinidad.  As a result of the reduced output, customers in the following areas may experience disruptions or low water pressure: Central Trinidad:  Caroni, Warrenville, Cunupia, Chaguanas, Caparo, Chase Village, Couva, Point Lisas, California, Claxton Bay, Plaisance Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.
